She began her international career in 2006 with a show for Jean Paul Gaultier, and model Lakshmi Menon immediately became a sought-after Indian face on the international ramp. But it was her nude shoot with Karl Lagerfeld for the prestigious Pirelli Calendar 2011 that became the high point of her career, making her the only Indian face to have shot for the calendar.

When we caught up with Lakshmi some time back, she told us that she was in Delhi to meet friends. "I was here to meet Jivi Sethi and a few of my other friends. I don't come to Delhi. I'm usually in and out of India and only visit family and friends. I have a house in the US and I have a house in Goa with my partner. So, we spend some time there."

Lakshmi added that she was taking it easy before starting work in September; however, there's none of it in India. "I haven't walked the ramp in India in the longest time. I don't have any plans to. My season starts in September in New York, and then it'll be a month of ramp walk. I'm taking it easy till then and after that it'll be New York, Milan and Paris."

Asked if there was any change in people's perception of her post the calendar shoot, she replied, "I hardly hang out here. I spend time with my parents, but no one else really from the business. And the ones I hang out with are more my friends. So there is no such thing as their perception of me. Yes, I did get a lot of reactions from my friends and family. But I did it because... I guess it was more about looking back when I'm 60 and thinking, 'Wow, I did the Pirelli Calendar.'

It was more for posterity than for anything else." As for the bare-all act, she wasn't uncomfortable. "Why should I be? Karl is a lovely, erudite man to work with. He is a fun guy to hang out with. So, I had a good time."
