She has some gorgeous pieces and I like the art deco of her work but I was really taken aback at the prices. I'm not saying she doesn't work with high end materials but £730+ pounds for a small clutch by a fairly unknown designer? It's still gorgeous but I'm not sure I would pay that much for her things.
uhm be careful anyone who is intersted in her bags in specific. the wholesale is about 300 pounds at the most (for the leather slouch bags with gold detail) and they sell for 1500 pounds in harrods!!!!
Yes, her stuff is beautiful, I've been a fan of her jewelry and handbags, but the prices are crazy. Her earrings are not even real gold or silver they cost £200+ a pair. Nice designs though.
HER sunglasses were one of the best things about last summer and now Lara Bohinc is gracing the fashion world with her latest project: handbags. The Daddy-sized bag is Laratella, Mummy is Larantina and baby clutch is Larissa, and it's pretty much impossible to choose between them. Available in buttery lamb's leather with a snakeskin trim or natural raffia or denim with leather trim, they are cult-worthy down to the last stitch. Slovenia-born Bohinc's skill is the manipulation of classical design by way of modern styling techniques and, if these and the shades are anything to go by, it's going to work just as well on her future projects which apparently include belts and shoes. Madonna has already been spotted showing off her Laratella, and we'll all be able to get our hands on them in Harrods at the end of February. (January 25 2006, AM)
Interview with Lara BohincBorn in Slovenia but now Shoreditch based, Lara Bohinc has emerged as one of the UK's leading lights in the fashion world. She's shown in Paris, collaborated with the likes of Julien McDonald, had her work featured in Vogue and Elle and is now ready to open her first shop. Situated in the basement of 51 Hoxton Square, Lara Bohinc 107 will sell her unique range of jewellery, belts, bags and sunglasses. My Village recently caught up with the achingly cool designer to find out how it all happened for her, where she gets her inspiration and why she's got a problem with the local dustmen... Name & age? Lara Bohinc, 30.
Live? By BT Tower, W1.
Label address? 51 Hoxton Square.
How long has the label been established? 5 years.
How did you get started in this field? By getting a small studio in Clerkenwell, working hard, being lucky and determined. Oh yes, and studying for few years at RCA as well.
What would you say is your work's key look - or can you generally describe a theme of what you do? Not an easy question, but basically: modern accessories that are generally manufactured as a mix of high tech processes (laser, water jet, photo etching)and hand finishing. Key look is modern, feminine, sensual and definitely bold and graphic. Theme is constantly changing though...you'll just have to check it out every season.
What, or who, inspires you? Depending on the collection, but let's say for most of the time: Russian constructivism, Japanese graphic prints, nature and architecture, industrial processes and the naked body...hmmmm.
Can you tell us about the new sunglasses range you are branching out into? It will be a collaboration with German eyewear company "IC-Berlin", there will be only 3 styles in limited edition of 300 pieces each. The frames are made of stainless steel using IC-Berlin's famous patent of non-breakable hinges and will come in 4 colour combinations. So get down here early if you want to buy them. I tell you, with all my friends wanting them it won't be much left for anyone else. In shops from january 2003.
Who is your target customer and why should they come to you? Ok, you want me to sell myself: because they want exciting new accessories that make them feel special...I don't have target customers as such. I'd like to be versatile. I try to design accessories that are specific and recognisable but can be worn in many different ways with lots of different styles. My friends and their mums usually both like them. At the end of the day, I ask myself whether I really design for myself most of the time. I am such a bad shopoholic, at least I don't have to buy accessories anymore. Except shoes, but that is still to come...
What is the latest trend in your opinion? Wear nothing but jewellery (with a pair of sunglasses and a bag)? It is bound to get you noticed! Forget trends, just wear what you like.
What do you enjoy about working in the area? The obvious choice of many bars, cafes and restaurants, a park on my doorstep and lots of friends working/living locally.
If you could change one thing about the area, what would it be? The rubbish collection. Can they not clear it out a bit more regularly? It certainly wouldn't make it less cool, just less stinky.
If you could take home one item from your range, what would it be and why? My two bead ring that I wear all the time. It is a clever design that makes a statement, it is a beautiful form and so easy to wear...what more would you want???
What would you do if you were given £10 million to invest in the business? Uaughhh, easy here, things like that just don't happen...obviously be a good girl and invest it back in the business: open shops, make advertising campaigns and all other clever stuff that is bound to make you into an even bigger brand...and make more money... Lara's new shop Lara Bohinc 107 is now open...

i love her jewellery too, such statement-pieces. I'm constantly checking ebay. i would never splurge out 200-something pounds on a bracelet, no matter how lovely it is. Hopefully i can find somethinf similar vintage.
I agree her work is beautiful and unusual.....unfortunately her quality is just so-so. The coatings are soooooooo thin. She needs to improve this, just not acceptable for the price point!!
