Tonight, Léa Seydoux, 24, is alone in her hotel room at Le Havre. There's nobody in the streets. She's listening to Mozart. "I wanted a song that would free my mind. I'm currently filming Belle Epine, of Rebecca Zlotowski, a movie about a girl who feels guilty of not having felt anything at her mother's death. I've the leading part. It's both incredible and exhausting. Everything about it seemed so difficult to me: to cry, to work in the cold with wet hair, to wash myself in front of the whole crew, the sex scenes, to respect the marks on the ground, to learn a bunch of text... In Belle Epine, I'm 17. After that, I'll be a married woman in another movie. The job of actress, which I'd never quit, gives you the possibility to go on existential journeys. That's a way to forget about yourself."
Léa got more recognition with Christophe Honoré's La Belle Personne in which she starred alongside Louis Garrel "Ever since, I got stopped like, twice by people in the streets. I'm known in Le Marais, where I live, and of the SA at A.P.C who asks me about my career every time I go there to buy clothes... Christophe is the director who means the most to me. I brings poetry to the cinema. He works softly. I used to be scared all the time. Now, I start to get more experience. I don't belong to teenage-hood anymore. So, I expect to be really judged."
2010 will be Seydoux's year. In Plein Sud, a road movie by Sébastien Lif****z (in theaters on December 30th) she's Léa, beautiful, pregnant, surrounded by guys. Because Léa likes boys a lot, just like her young brother. "Léa is a fallen girl. But the movie is more about Sam (Yannick Renier) haunted about his father's suicide. I see it as a way to experience something different. To explore the areas of sensuality and flaunting. Moreover, I like the whole "team" thing: to get to know each other, to sleep everywhere..."
Léa will also be a volunteer of the Order of Malta's Knights attracted by Bruno Todeschini in Jessica Hausner's Lourdes. Last but not least, she'll be the Princess of Angoulême, wife of Jean sans Terre in Ridley Scott's Robin Wood. Ridley Scott who hired before her Eva Green or Marion Cotillard...
"That's a prestigious project, indeed, but I only have a small part in it. The part of Rebecca means as much to me. This being said, when Ridley Scott picks you up, you can't help but think that, maybe, you're worth something. The day before we started filming, I slept for 3 hours. After that, even if anxiety is like a driving force, I felt really cool. First of all, because no one acted like show-offs on set. And then, because I could drink beers with Russell Crowe every nights, in spite of knowing the power he has and what he represents."
Léa about becoming full of yourself when you become famous: "It's all about the people around you. I still have the same friends. I didn't get new friends. I don't even have any famous friends." She likes to know everything about people. "I like to have real relationships with people. I want them to tell me about their life, to know about what they eat, what's their sofa like... That's why I don't go to clubs anymore, even if I love to dance. Some are a bit drunk, a bit lost, and this superficiality makes me feel anxious. Be careful, I can be superficial too. As a kid, I used to play a lot with my Barbie dolls. I dressed them up and undressed them. Because of that, I love clothes. Those which embellish one's body. I like people who are chic and who smell good. That's the bourgeois side in me. Even if, at the same time, I don't really care about it. And, I don't hate to wear heels... to seduce guys who are running everywhere."
