Move over, Lil' Kim; there's a new diminutive in town—or Berlin, rather, among the gritty galleries, squatters and Asian import shops of the Mitte district. Lil* Shop (Brunnenstraße 184, +49 (30) 280 45 338)—not to be confused with Little Shop of Horrors—is Comme des Garçons' permanent new retail home in the German capital and the brainchild of Lil Schlichting-Stegemann, who conceived the brand's three now-vacated Guerrilla pop-up stores in the city. As the name implies, only a limited selection of current and vintage Comme clothing, as well as fragrances and accessories, will be available—in addition to Junya Watanabe. For the recent launch party, Reiko Yuyuma, Japan's first female sushi chef, cooked up Japanese crudités alongside Maki Nomiya, singer of the now disbanded Tokyo pop sensation Pizzicato Five. Hintsters, however, will love the new shop for another reason: the wall graphics and overall art direction were done by none other than Hint contributor Thomas Zeitlberger. It's a small worl...er, a lil* world.

only a limited selection of current and vintage Comme clothing... will be available
But assumably an exceptional selection? I love stores with few things, all of them desirable. I typically dislike feeling overwhelmed by choice. :D (Unfortunately, that isn't always possible with the stores I can better afford, which are known as bargain 'bins' for a reason--you've got to dig. :p Though I still make shameless visits to Saks' Off Fifth, et al. whenever I'm near...) Lil* Shop looks and sounds like paradise, but this makes me laugh:

It's very much what I would've used for an interjection myself...

I love the idea of having vintage selections; do other Comme stores practice this?

^I was glad to hear about Nomiya too ^_^ I love Pizzicato 5

Any reason they chose that location? They sound like they don't think really highly of it in the short article...

^do you mean the address or the actual district?

mitte is probably the most fastly growing area's of berlin. i think any indie who is based or has a shop in berlin is in that district. i don't think they described it so well because it isn't all about those things. loads of art galleries certainly but in general it is truly the creative heartbeat of berlin's cultural art/fashion/music scene.

and the great thing also, that in spite it's growing popularity it is still CHEAP!

i'm probably going to berlin myself btw. it's cheap, creatively free and easy for me to get a residence card... :)

^ Lucky you! :woot:

I just had a look at this last night (thanks to Honey~Blade for linking me to it!). I really like the whole concept of the store... And the walls! :crush:
This place is on my places-to-go list!

Thanks for posting, Scott!

is lil*shop in any way owned by CdG? even partially? or is it a completely independent shop?

Yea my friend is going there too...he told me today, and I'm so jealous. I do think the scene is a very interesting entity to explore

well,Lil Schlichting-Stegemann owns it(hence the *lil* in the name of the shop)--but as the article says he was responsible for concieving the Guerilla endeavour in Berlin together with CdG so i'm sure at least partially Rei and Adrian is involved with this too.

JJ,thing is,i got a tremendous response to my project there so it'll give me a easier oppurtunity to really develop my project. but i am going to between there and antwerp any way one looks at it.

you're welcome,titania ;)
