LILY COLE has been awarded an honorary degree by Glasgow Caledonian University in recognition of her outstanding contribution to humanitarian and environmental causes. The model-turned-philanthropist launched her self-funded social media platform - impossible.com, designed to encourage users to help each other for free - after being inspired by the work of GCU Chancellor, Professor Yunus.
"I am honoured to have been offered this distinction by Glasgow Caledonian University, especially as I have great admiration for the work of Professor Yunus," Cole told The Glasgow Evening Times. "I have set up several businesses as social businesses and I am a great believer that the power of business should be used for good."
The honour marks another addition to Cole's CV - which already boasts a double first class degree in History of Art from Cambridge.
"I am delighted that Lily is being honoured by Glasgow Caledonian University in recognition of her important work in creating new social business networks," said Professor Yunus. "As patron of The Ethical Justice Foundation, Lily calls attention to issues within the production chains of clothing materials such as cotton."
In between juggling international modelling, a budding acting career, and a lively love life, Lily Cole has managed to bag a DOUBLE FIRST (a first-class honours degree in 2 subjects). Brainy beauty Cole was one of only 11 History of Art students to achieve the highest possible class.
Model Lily Cole and Designer Vivienne Westwood make a personal appearance at Selfridges Imaginarium to talk about their work for The Environmental Justice Foundation at Selfridges on January 30, 2014 in London, England.
