My Goodness, she looks so much like a doll. In photoshoots her pictures don't look like pictures at all, but like peices of beautiful paintings, it's amazing.

Hamburg - Lily Cole, 17, britisches Model, dem Erfolgschancen à la Kate Moss prophezeit werden, nimmt es bei der Wahl von Auftraggebern genauer als manch eine ihrer Kolleginnen. Ein südafrikanischer Luxusjuwelier bekam jetzt einen Korb.

Cole löste einen Vertrag mit dem Juwelierkonzern De Beers, berühmt für hochkarätigen Diamantschmuck, auf, weil ihr menschenrechtliche Bedenken kamen. De Beers hatte das Nachwuchstalent aus London rechtzeitig für Fotos zur Eröffnung einer neuen Filiale der Goldschmiede auf der Fifth Avenue in New York engagiert.

Die Menschenrechtsorganisation Survival International wirft dem südafrikanischen Konzern schon länger vor, Ureinwohner von Botswana aus deren Gebiet zu vertreiben, um dort Diamantenminen auszubeuten.

Als Cole davon erfuhr, sagte der Rotschopf kurzerhand alle Termine ab. Der Juwelenhändler dementierte die Anschuldigungen stets, aber bereits vergangenes Jahr verbuchte Survival International das Ende der Zusammenarbeit mit Supermodel Iman, der in Somalia geborenen Frau von David Bowie, als Erfolg für sich.
