NEW YORK — Roll credits, Fashion Week in Gotham concluded Thursday night at the Ziegfeld Theatre in Midtown when Marc Jacobs staged an ambitious runway show even by his own lofty standards. The evening’s marquee event was a cinematic interpretation of the traditional runway program in which models processed down a red carpet along West 54 Street, stopped in front of a step-and-repeat before a phalanx of photographers, and ultimately wended their way into the auditorium before popcorn-munching show-goers. On the night Grace Simmons, Lineisy Montero, Anna Cleveland, Riley Montana, Jay Wright, and Binx all featured in the dramatic performance. The logistics of staging a multi-part show with over 60 looks worn by over 60 living, breathing models, in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan boggles the mind. But, then again, this is the very sort of spectacle that epitomizes the dedication and pure artistry that Marc Jacobs brings to bear on any endeavor carrying his name. The view from inside the dressing tent, the engine room of the show, ought to give viewers a taste of what makes this runway show worthy of its marquee billing.
