Front Row at Fendi
By JOELLE DIDERICH and ALESSANDRA TURRA
WWD Issue 02/22/2013
WINTER WARMERS: The fur in the audience rivaled that on the catwalk at the Fendi show Thursday, which drew an international crew of bright young things. Liu Wen, wrapped up in a shaggy electric pink Fendi coat, said she was eager to try her own hand at designing. “One day I would love to have my clothing line, but I have to wait because when you’re young, you must learn a lot. Right now, I still feel like a new girl,” the Chinese model mused.

Liu Wen feels like she lives from airplane to airplane, constantly traveling for work for the past five years. So this season, she’s making sure to take it easy and enjoy herself a little in each city. Saturday, the 25-year-old jet-setting model is in Milan, where she walked in Roberto Cavalli’s show in the morning. Sunday, she’ll walk in Dolce & Gabbana.
What’s your age?
A quarter of the way to 100.
Where are you from?
Hunan, China.
How long have you been modeling?
Over five years now.
What shows have you been in so far this season?
This is now my 10th season doing fashion week in Milan, so I’m taking it easy like I did in New York. I walked in Gucci three days ago, and I was invited to watch the Fendi show from the front row the day before yesterday. Yesterday, I walked in the always colorful Etro.
What’s your favorite television show?
“Friends.” Even though it ended a long time ago, I still love watching it a lot.
What’s the one beauty product that you can’t live without?
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair.
What’s your go-to carryall bag?
During fashion week, I always have a few different-sized bags from different brands. This season I am carrying Miu Miu, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Alexander Wang.
Give us a tip for taking the best photo.
I think knowing yourself and being yourself is most important of all. Just take it easy and flash a bright and beautiful smile every once in a while so it helps the mood on set!
Describe your perfect day off.
A day spent just in my pajamas, sleeping … and then sleeping some more.
How do you know you’ve made it?
When I know in my heart that my parents would be proud of what I’m doing and what I have accomplished.
Twitter or Instagram?
Both (I’m @LiuWenLW)! But my Instagram posts go to my Twitter, too, so it’s the same to me.
What’s on your iPod shuffle these days?
A lot of different genres, from Adele to Frank Ocean. I just lost my headphones, though.
