Loafers...

I have a few pairs of loafers i love them i wear myn with cigarette or skinny pants i feel they add a masculine touch. They kinda remind me of something a bit mod. I have more penny loafer types but i am looking for pair of slipper type ones simular to obes softgrey posted (so thanks for ideas :flower: )

ernst!...
thanks for all those really cool reference photos...
:woot:...

those ladies definitely made them look cool...
B)...

I bought the JCrew Bass ones too, MulletProof. I didn't want to spend a lot on loafers until I knew I would wear them. And I have worn the Bass ones lots. They look great with cropped pants, or skirts with sox. Very classic.

I've been feeling loafers for about a year now - or the slipper incarnation of them - the kind that stubbs and wootton do. I love the whimsy of their embroidery. there is also a company in London that do something very similar whose name i can't remember. but unfortunately stubbs and wootton are hard to get in the UK and nothing on ebay came up that fit (and I wasn't going to shell out $300-400 for a new pair :innocent:). My favourite pair had little embroidered grenades on the toe box. I love little twists like that. I guess I should just go ahead and get a custom order since I'm still thinking about the pair that got away

So I'm glad that more high street brands are taking this loafer look on now. I never find them masculine. It's what you wear with it. I think having a loafer can anchor an outfit and are a great alternative to ballet flats.

Apparently loafers with heels are a trend right now according to the magazine I'm currently reading.

I love this picture of Sofia Coppola in 1992 wearing fushcia-pink loafers with an all black ensemble:

Whenever I think of loafers I think of Audrey .. and more recently .. Nancy Drew (the recent movie with Emma Roberts).

I LOVED every single piece of clothing wore by her character .. and she did the penny loafers like nobodys business ... now the looks may have looked a wee bit too retro, but still I love em ...

wow, ernst thank you for those old pics! i like loafers to begin with but they just made me look at them at a different way..i'm from the north east so I'm used to the preppy look but they look so glamorous there! i already have a more classic brown pair but i think i'm going to get a black pair for the fall too for work, the kind with more of a slipper-like shape like many of you posted here. they have some cute ones at topshop too:

i was debating between something like these loafers or a pair of black ballet flats since my old ones kicked the bucket last year but i think i'll go with these :)

^^cute ones from topshop...

and what do you all think...
LOAFERS--
with socks or without?!?...

:p

without.

100%.

it's too much with socks - people keep trying to make heels with socks and loafers with socks happen, but it looks too bulky. I think w/o socks is what makes it feel fresh. But then again, I hate socks :ninja:

aww...
i love socks!...

...

not necessarily with loafers...
but it does look cute in that pic from la garconnes with the short shift dress...don't you think...?

:flower:

Without ... and if you choose with socks, Id make a bold statement with the socks .. some cool print or a bright (or deep) color

Last fall my sister discarded a pair of Tommy Hilfiger loafers and I got hooked up big time. On the socks rule – I would vote “yes” because I wear loafers on the days when I have to literary run from morning to evening.

i think the sock thing really depends...

i for one definitely couldn't pull off the look of loafers with socks (or heels with socks for that matter)
i think you need to have slim legs and slim ankles for that to work and my legs are just too muscular. it would look silly on me. so i'll be sticking to no socks

i think it can look really fun and irreverent when worn by the right person with the right attitude toward fashion though ^_^

im all for both looks..but about 80% without socks...20% with socks.
i love loafers, i have about 3 or 4 pairs and wear them constantly. i was so gutted when my fave pair from topshop got discontinued 3 years ago :(
i have moved on however, and got myself other styles/colours :)

I personally couldn't pull off the loafers with socks look. I just can't wear anything past mid-foot arch really, don't know what it is about my legs feet that resist this style. I can't even wear a pair of decent ankle boots!
However, I'm loving the loafer trend in it's more feminine incarnations. In particular I look for loafers with a shorter vamp to expose more of the foot, as I find this elongates the leg. I've also recently purchased a pair of tan platform loafer pumps that have garnered me quite a few compliments :D. Feel like I should be charging commission to the company that makes them as I'm sending them a lot of business!

I agree. A pair of loafers with socks and trousers can look very swift, if worn by the right person and of course attitude.. ^_^

Had my eye on a pair of patent black loafers for a while at Asos. But for some reason I can't commit, possibly because I don't need them, and am trying to purchase less per season. But I have this feeling I might be sad when they are sold out. I kind of like the socks and loafers look when done modestly...sort of worn boyishly, with loose trousers and a blazer perhaps. Contrast coloured socks, maybe, but in earthy, subtle tones.
