Louis Vuitton Menswear S/S 2024 Paris

Virgil's is a little bit better imo.

This looks like Billionaire Boys Club with more budget. I have no words for look 39 & 40...
For me it’s better than Virgil.
Virgil’s proportions were horrendous. Nobody (him included) looked good in his clothes. There are 4 looks in here that are superior to Virgil’s whole tenure IMO:

- Look 4
- Look 16
- Look 21
- Look 50

Where Virgil used to shine was in his approach to accessories though.

Let the conglomerates play out their blatant cash grab strategies to the point of obscenity, perhaps that is the waking call it needs until customers realize they should think twice what kind of enterprises they are supporting by throwing their money at these behemoth kind of brands.

Designers like Nicolas Ghesquiere, Hedi Slimane or Raf Simons have had their opportunities to build houses of their own and decided instead to live handsomely as hired creatives for these brands. Perhaps the urge to aquire art collections and properties they can design is where the greater passion lies the longer they play the game.

The industry is in a state of revolt and while it's alarming that most opportunities lie in digital markets, I am starting to feel more hopeful that an educated, reflected consumer will be increasingly less enticed by the prestige of big brands the more aggressively they are being marketed.
1000%

I had my doubts (to put politely) about his appointment and this is better than I braced for but still far from good (again, being polite). At its worst it is as if Phillip Plein got his tacky fingers on PPP's Valentino archive and it's best it is low hanging commercial fruit.

It will sell, get lots of coverage/placement, the suits will be happy, and we will be stuck looking at his uninspired work for a while *sigh*

This was my assessment after looking at the photos on Vogue Runway and I just finished watching the show. It is much worse than thought. Seeing it in motion really highlighted how ridiculous and sloppy the fits are.

I am BAFFLED(!!!) how him and the team walked out so proudly after showing this nonsense! HOW?

i won’t get into the absurdity and lack of awareness of the gospel choir here…

Criticism of the clothes is fair but the music was impeccable!

Please leav the music out of this, it was the only thing that got me through that underwhelming display of clothes and accessories.

No, it really wasn't.

The orchestral music was bad.

The hip-hop was bad.

The choir had good energy, but the vocal arrangement was awful. The featured singer was fine, but "JOY JOY JOY JOY" literally ad nauseam was written by someone (Pharrell or not, I don't want to know) who has no idea what a scale or a chord progression is.

I-II-III-II is not a chord progression. IYKYK. It straight up does not sound good.

Since Africana is now mandatory for the Louis Vuitton Man, here is a perfectly nice (melodic, mellifluous) choral arrangement by a traditionally dressed Ugandan choir for your enjoyment:

* I trust I do not have to demonstrate the easy availability of legitimately beautiful classical music and hip-hop that doesn't grate on the ears.

This is a win for LVMH and their bottom line. Like some had said before, PW's appointment was not about fashion but about profit and the performance of it all as evidence in this show. It's not a terrible collection for the end goal. There were 2-3 jackets I, as a woman, will probably buy. At the end of the day, I'm not the audience for this. The audience is PW, Alexandre Arnault, these types. Ultimately, I am not an LV customer. To me, LV is intended for the influencers, new money, for the masses who want to display (not the appropriate word, but blanking at the moment) the vision of luxury LVMH is selling to them.

That being said the music was better than I was expecting, minus the choir. Could have done without the choir. But it did make the show fun and was the only thing that kept me watching.

I think I was one of the few people who expected at least some beauty from Pharrell since I love his personal style but this is not good. from color palette, to the lenght of the show to the overall looks, I hated it. 1 or 2 looks can be saved IMO. maybe I'll like more when I see the detailed picture on vogue runway but I doubt it. it's not just tasteless but it's horrible taste.

I am not going into details about the pieces, because this show is not about that: it's about a massive display of power.
The spectacle is impressive, and will go down as one to remember - but all of it comes across as disingenuous.
It really tries so uphold a veneer of fun and joy, but to me feels rather sinister.

Fashion has become another avenue for colossal corporations to capitalise on the public's finances, and LVMH seems more than willing to provide us with over-sugared merchandise disguised as luxury.

They'll make their billions by selling bags, who cares about the collection anyway.

It is mystifying to me how supposedly informed, yet illogical some of the posts are on this site. To many, this was an amazing show that served as a joyful proposition of incredibly wearable garments. Pharrell is an architect of a culture that this industry has perpetually tried to exploit and imitate for decades.

You call this show devoid of creativity and originality, and do so arrogantly - yet you either fail to understand the history that is at the core of this presentation, or fail to realize that it is actually your vision that is narrow and shallow. It seems obvious that some of you spend more time online and archiving images than you do in real life, in design session, or even in the stores.

Your critique would hold more weight if your decision criteria extended beyond whether or not the presentation appealed to you on your 2D screen. You are not special or highly enlightened because you can find things to hate - people with actual taste appreciate craftsmanship, and creators appreciate the difficulty of making clothes people actually desire and want to make memories in.

Hi Pharrell! Welcome to the forum!:raisinghands:

"Incredibly wearable garments"? Wearable where, onstage at a concert for the blind? I can see it now, "Vision-Challenged FUBU, sponsored by Louis Vuitton."

Maybe you can tell me where it is you walk down the street and see joyful ordinary people joyfully wearing joyfully hideous $10,000 all-over damier outfits, so I can be sure never to go there. How many people in "the culture" (you do mean Black people, right?) can afford Louis Vuitton and actually spend their hard-earned money on it?

Anyway, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but your glowing review of this parade of travesties is painfully consonant with the worldwide race to the bottom occurring in every mainstream art form.

I love it apart from some of the ill fitting items like the coat on Liya. I like the pixelated print too. I loved the soundtrack and the location which isnt surprising considering his runway soundtrack record. The suits knew why they were hiring him, he has access to the most powerful celebrities that were t the show which in turn made it trend in line for the hype crowd.
