Back in the early 90s when I was a teenager half of my wardrobe was from O'Neill, and to tell you the truth I do not see much difference between Luella's line and their normal clothes. Not sure if it's worth checking it out.

I'm not a big fan of this collection but from what she has described [about the Fall/Winter collection] it seems more interesting whereas this stuff just looks kinda like PacSun.

The collection she is doing for O'Neill next is of course for snow and she said it was to look "rustic" with classic/vintage mountaineer designs.

LUELLA BARTLEY & O’NEILL RESUME EXCLUSIVE COLLABORATION
17 Dec 2007

O’Neill is set to welcome back celebrated British designer Luella Bartley for a second exclusive collaboration with a signature line comprising some 30 styles as part of the wider fall winter collection in 2008/09.

Voted Designer of the Year by both Elle and Glamour Magazine in 2006, and with two British Designer of the Year nominations already in the bag, Luella has undoubtedly cemented her reputation as one of the leading forces in the world of fashion design.

“I had always loved the idea of doing a collaboration with a surf and snow brand,” says Luella. “For me, O’Neill has the best heritage. It is nice to do more than one season together. It gives us more opportunity because we know how much further we can go with it.” Already immersed in the surfing lifestyle and culture: “to the point where we have moved to Cornwall to be
closer to that ideal,” says Luella, she also has a strong affiliation with the mountains. “It’s the flipside to surfing for me,” she says. “It’s that huge expanse of nature. It’s the same with the sea as it is with the mountains. It’s about being outdoors and being natural.”

This snow collection provided Luella with a new and exciting challenge to add to her fashion work. “As a designer I am always dealing with image,” she says. “But the great thing about designing the snow capsule collection has been connecting fashion to functionality. I have taken technical items such as jackets, trousers, gloves and goggles and given them an edgier look using print and color.” Her inspiration for collection is taken straight from the mountains: “It is nostalgia for old-school mountaineering and a rustic alpine feel. I also took a lot of my inspiration from the values and heritage of O’Neill. It’s slightly retro and a bit rustic using primary colors and retro graphics to make it feel clean.” Having spent numerous winters in the Alps, Luella knows what appeals to the girls on the slopes in terms of both function and style: “I hope that this collection appeals to someone who knows about fashion but is looking for an antidote to the girlier side of women’s snow wear. It’s not really about age or look, more about
attitude.”

Eppo Van Berckelaer, O’Neill Global Marketing Director, is looking forward to the new styles from Luella Bartley. “It’s great to have Luella back for the winter collection. Her original style and the common ground that she shares with O’Neill provided something very special for the spring/summer 08 collection and I have no doubt that our consumers will enjoy Luella’s winter collection just as much.”
