Treis Stewart: How and when were you discovered?
Lydia Carron: My mom is a knitwear designer and she used me as her fit model and took pictures of me. She posted the photos on her website and a woman sent her an email saying that we should go to DNA, Next, or IMG...Next just happened to be first. So we walked in and after a three hour conversation I signed with them.
TS: What is your favourite thing about the fashion/modeling industry?
LC: The clothes! I love how clothing can make a person feel a certain way, like sexy, or glamorous, etc. Also, the people are really amazing and inspiring.
TS: What is something that you dislike about the fashion/modeling industry?
LC: Sometimes it gets a little hectic. I am still in school and juggling the two can be difficult.
TS: When are you most nervous and what thoughts cross through your mind?
LC: When I am about to meet a really distinguished designer/photographer. When I first met Marc Jacobs and Alber Elbaz I was nervous, but mostly because I was overwhelmed and excited.
TS: Where is your favourite city to work in and why?
LC: NEW YORK! because I live here and can stay close to family and friends. Also, it's much easier to get around in then, let's say, Tokyo.
TS: Do you have any beauty secrets that you could share with us?
LC: I don't really know if these are secrets, but I drink a lot of tea, like maybe ten large cups a day. I like mint and chai teas the most. I also don't wear makeup when I am not working, not even concealer, and I take my makeup off right after a job with Vaseline. Oh, and I just started doing yoga.
TS: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
LC: Well, in 10 years I will have just turned 26, so hopefully still modeling. Eventually I would like to go to college though.
TS: Are you inspired by any other model or public figure?
LC: Alexander Wang inspires me, I like that effortless look.
TS: Besides modeling, what do you like to do?
LC: I'm really into drawing and photography. Also, I play the piano. Oh, and I LOVE cooking, just last night I made an Italian inspired dinner with a few friends.
TS: What are some of your favourite songs or musical artists?
LC: It changes all the time, but, currently: Goldfrapp, Yelle, Snow Patrol, Mellowdrone, The Submarines, any Italian techno (Sister's influence) and Aimee Mann.
TS: Do you have any special or “cool” talents?
LC: Uhh, I can touch my tongue to my nose (laughs) if that's what you mean. I can recite entire scenes from a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer (laughs). I'm kind of obsessed.
TS: Is the modeling industry really as competitive as they say it is, or is that theory just somewhat of an urban myth?
LC: It is, at first I didn't think it was, until I went to my first casting and saw the group of 30 some girls and a stack of comp cards, but competition is good and all the girls i've met so far are nice.
