I've just joined a community on livejournal about her, and this was posted.

I thought that I would share, and I've very generously bolded the lines that I think are fantastic. Also, I've been discussing the purple haze reference, and while I agree that it does likely reference Jimmy Hendrix and drugs, I also believe that it's about more than that. If you watch the video again, you see that the purple is used to illustrate some bombings and there is repeated imagery of tanks and grenades as well.
"I have an art book M.I.A. had published in 2002 by Pocko (
http://www.pocko.com) as part of their arts series in association with Diesel. It's published under her real name Maya Arulpragasam. I bought it for a fiver a year or so ago in a bookshop in Soho in London. Justine Frischmann, former leader singer of Elastica, has written a foreward for the book aswell. It's got loads of her artworks and the back of the book is a flipbook featuring her lyrics, i'll write them for you here:
History Dead Time for Herstory
i'm a casualty, a war refugee
not black and white like a referee
missing in action gone to start a revolution
freedom fighter get injection
he no act, he get no reaction
my freedom fighting dad
they bombed his pad
called him a terror
and put him on wanted ads
kaliana from sri lanka
done too long being foreigner
eng-a-land now her homeland
from the time she came as immigrant
she done found her culture culture
she eat curry curry dance to ragga
she hates police whatever country
she loves refugees whatever country
i don't think i'm anything
coloured, christian, hindu, muslim
world too small, evolution fast
ethnic cleansing never worked in the past
the colour of my system reflects the spectrum
rainbow people are in this season
you pay your taxes to arm a soldier
we fight we get called offender
you can be a follower
but who's the leader
you leader
you lead
come chizzle my nizzle
break the cycle or it will kill ya."
