Mackenzie Drazan

^^ oh my god, they're so beautiful. that's exactly how i would shoot her if i was a photographer

Mackenzie is great, but the photos are too much for me. I can't focus on her with all of the effects.

agreed, the effects are a bit too much but her beauty still shines through. Love seeing her on a horse lol
I feel like she might be the 2nd Mona Johannesson in that aspect, being in editorials often with horses due to her love for them.

Chatting Away to Mackenzie

A discovery of Stars Model Management in San Francisco, the instantly recognizable Mackenzie Drazan absolutely won over me during last season's Jil Sander show. Having racked up a great tally of Haute Couture and Resort bookings since then, Mackenzie just had her print debut for the August issue of Teen Vogue.
Always so elegant and refined, we predict this California girl to be on the top of every must-book list next season. Now represented by New York City's stardom factory Marilyn Agency, Mackenzie gave me a little insight into her world - which you shouldn't miss to read beneath!

It all began for you at Valentino Couture exactly one year ago. How has life changed since then?
My life has definitely changed since I walked for Valentino Couture. I have learned so much more about the fashion industry and have been lucky to have a few fantastic experiences since then. Even though I have gained some more experience, I still just get as excited at every show as I was when I did my first major show with Valentino last season.

I love your new piece with Sebastian Kim for Teen Vogue, it's entirely about new denim trends and stylist Havana Laffitte did a great job here. Tell me about your outfit choices if you had to style an editorial on your own.
Thank you! I had so much fun shooting with Sebastian Kim and Havana, they are amazing and gifted people.
If I were to style an editorial, I would want to make sure it was elegant with an edgy twist. I'm not quite sure how I would accomplish that which is why it's probably better that I stay the model instead of the stylist.

How important is it for you to have good advisors in this industry?
I think that it is very important to have good advisors in this industry because I am new at this business and what would seem like a very good idea to me could be a mistake in the long run for my career. That is why I feel so fortunate to have my mom and my agents who I know are looking after me and have my best interests in mind.

Have you ever checked your thread on The Fashion Spot? You seem to have a lot of fans over there!
I occasionally do and I so appreciate all their kind words and support!

Which profession would you like to pursue besides modelling?
I would like to go into business (private equity to be specific) when I am all done with modeling (which hopefully won't be for a very long time). I am currently trying to figure out how to balance modeling and continuing my education so I have opportunities in the future.

found this interview, she talks about riding & modelling

MEET OUR MODEL MACKENZIE DRAZEN

Mackenzie Drazan lives in the Bay Area, California, with her family and is an accomplished rider as well as an up and coming model. We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Mackenzie for a chat and to take some pictures.

How old were you when you started riding? How did that come about?

I started riding on my first birthday. I was with my Mom in the Hamptons and she took me on on a pony ride. She was a bit worried that it might scare me but I loved it and have been riding ever since! My Mom grew up riding and she shared her love of horses with my younger Sister and me. I’ve made many friends through riding.

What type of competing do you do?

3’6” Equitation and the jumpers. I do about sixteen shows a year, all over California and most are in Sothern California. I ride every day except one per week when I do volunteer work. About a year ago, I moved to Waldenbrook Farm to train with John French.

What do you love about riding?

I love the relationship you can establish with horses. I am so lucky to be able to have horses at home, which lets me ride almost every day. I also love the thrill of jumping and the adrenaline I get from competing. I have different horses for different types of events: I have equitation horse who is 6 years old and a jumper who is 8 years old.

I understand that you volunteer for NCEFT, would you tell us a bit about the organization?

I volunteer for NCEFT every week (National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy ). NCEFT is a non-profit organization that treats young kids with neuromuscular disorder. We do hippotherapy which focuses on muscle strengthening and team building. The kids do exercises such as vaulting and stances as well as communication drills. They get to bond with the horses and instructors as well as the volunteers. The therapy improves muscle strength and helps to make the kids more confident in groups.

Seems that you’ve been interspersing your love for horseback riding with doing some (major!) modeling? We love that you were able to merge the two for our pictures for Ariat. Can you tell us about some of the other modeling you’ve been doing?

About a year ago I signed with Stars Model Management, a modeling agency. Last summer I went to Paris and walked for the Valentino haute couture show. I was in Paris for a month with my Mom and Sister and plan to go again this summer. It was an incredible experience – the people I worked with were very nice, and the clothes were amazing. I even got to do some sightseeing with my Mom & Sister. I’m already looking into horses to ride in Paris for the summer when I go back to work. I would like to ride every weekend.

How to you find time to do all of these things AND go to school?!

I do have a lot of interests. In addition to riding, I play tennis, ski & water ski which keep me really busy. I try to manage my plans far in advance. My teachers have been great and willing to work with me if I have to miss school for a competition; I just try to give them a lot of advance notice and have my work in on time.

I would love to keep riding and competing, and I would love to continue modeling. I need to to pay for the horses!

Last Question-What are your horses’ names?

Rapha and Conejito

I liked that interview, she came across as very grounded, perhaps because she does have an outlet other than modeling. NCEFT is a great organization wonderful to hear that she volunteers with them.

I love her interviews. I can't wait to see more from her. I'm hoping to see her in more shows next month.

Mackenzie is such a natural, elegant and refined beauty I don't understand how one can call her ugly.

So per the interview it sounds like she shot for Ariat (riding boots/gear)... wonder where those pictures are...

Terrific interviews (thanks for the contribution guys!).

I can't stop being marveled by Mackenzie, she does come across as a very grounded girl for her age and she certainly has interesting things to say. It's nice to read how active and healthy her interests are.
