How long have you been modeling for?
About 4.5 years now.

What advice would you give a model starting out?
Every model is different, so don’t go judging your jobs by what another model may be doing.

What do you like about modeling?
Travelling to places I wouldn’t have ever considered before modelling, meeting new people from all parts of the world & making great friends with some. Plus being able to wear amazing clothing and jewellery that I’d have only been able to imagine without modelling.

What do you dislike about it?
Travelling because I dislike flying & not being able to plan ahead in time as everything in modelling is pretty much last minute.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you in your modeling career?
I’m very proud of my Gucci Resort Campaign, and the Gucci jewellery/glasses campaign that I recently did.

What had been the worst thing?
So far, I thankfully have nothing that really stands out enough to call ‘the worst’ thing to happen to me.

Have you ever stuck up for yourself to a client that was being rude or disrespectful?
No, not yet in my career.

When did you get your big break?
My first fashion week was in AW14. I did an exclusive for Christopher Kane in London, then went on to Paris and walked for designers such as Saint Laurent & Louis Vuitton. Then a few months after that I shot my first American Vogue with Annie Leibowitz & Grace Coddington.

What is your ultimate goal you wish to achieve in your modeling career?
I’ve always said I’d love to do a fragrance campaign.

Is modeling your passion or something on the side?
I love to cook and find nutritional medicine fascinating also. I’ve started doing some cooking classes in NYC when I have some time.

Have you ever tried to change your body in any way because of a comment said to you by someone in the industry?
I did so once before I went overseas, because the International modelling standards are different from those in Australia.

Do you think your years of modelling experience has made you more self-confident or has it made you feel the opposite?
Both. I definitely have a lot more self confidence these days thanks to modelling, though sometimes I will find myself revert back to being that self conscious teenager. But I feel this is something that every women will experience model or not.

What does your typical weekly diet and exercise look like?
I’m always changing what I like, but I love my fruits, vegetables, chicken & most seafoods. Plus I love me a good cappuccino or two a day. For exercise I like to walk a lot, especially in NYC, or I will do a yoga/barre class every now and then. When I’m home in Australia I run.

What is your favourite city to model in and why?
There are aspects of all the city’s that I admire. But London has a place in my heart, perhaps because it’s more similar in some ways to Australia.

WHO'S THAT GIRL?
The Edit - Net-A-Porter

Meet the model: MADISON STUBBINGTON
Age: 19
Nationality: Australian
Instagram: @madi_stubbington

MY CONFIDENCE HAS GROWN… Before I began modeling, I was super shy and couldn’t really talk to people – this job has opened up my personality. Knock-backs have gotten easier, too – when I first started, I’d take them really personally. It’s hard not to when you’re young.

I DON’T WORK OUT MUCH… I like to walk everywhere so that’s my exercise. If one of my friends is going to a class, I’ll go too, and my parents run every morning so I’ll run with them if I’m home. I do wish I was more into it; all those endorphins would help.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME… I miss Australia a lot; the relaxed way of living, my family, the small things. But I’ve been roomies with [fellow model] Charlee Fraser for the past year. We met once or twice in Australia, then when I found out she was coming here, we decided to be friends. It’s good to hear the Aussie accent overseas.

MY CAREER WAS A SURPRISE… When I was little, I told my mum I wanted to be a famous model and travel the world when I grew up, so I guess it was on my mind but it wasn’t my priority. I wasn’t expecting it – I thought I’d be at university now.

I’M USED TO TRAVELING… My dad is in the Defense Force so we had to move around a lot. Not as frequently as I have to now, but it definitely helped to prepare me.

I HATED MY HAIR… When I was younger, I dyed it brown as soon as I was old enough to save me from being bullied. But my career has really helped me with owning it and being happy with what I’ve got – my hair has definitely played a big part in getting me this far, so I’m thankful for it.

I'm glad she's embraced her red hair, instead of trying to hide it.
