Magazine Clutches

How exactly does it work? What does the inside look like, like?
Its hard to exaplain.

Mine is hard plastic on the outside in the shape of what a magazine looks like when you fold it. It opens up and has material on the opposite end to keep things in the purse from falling out.

No pockets inside just lined with satin.

I wish my camera worked. THen I could show you what it looks like inside.

These clutches were primarily made in the 60s and 70s. Some were made in the 80s as well. The original ones are made by one company (which I always forget what's called, it includes a mans name). The clutches from the 80s and 90s are copies, don't know by who.

The original can be found in vintage stores irl or online.. Good luck! ;)
Thanks scandinavianchic :flower:

I want one now... hehe. But how will I tell between the original from the reproductions if I get it from somewhere like E-bay?

a girl in my experimental handbags class is making one, and is trying to knock it off as "her idea"...
hmm...
that can sometimes be the worst thing for a student...
u think u have an original idea.. n then wen u start to do some background research, etc etc ( well we always had to... its a big thing over here in uk schools colleges unis, researching artists who have done similar things etc) anyways...
then u just come around to the thinking that ur idea is just the same as everyone elses.. well sometimes... haha

Someone suggested earlier one that you could likely make one yourself.
This page gives instructions on how to do just that...

The instructions on the link are a great idea, and I like the shape of that one, but it's just paper...wouldn't it rip? [/b][/quote]
Probably. I think that the projects on that site are only meant to be for fun and fast pieces. If you want something more long lasting, I'd either laminate the bag and line the insides, or simply buy yourself a proper one. :flower:

Yes, I would definitely modify these plans to make a real one. I have plans to make a collage on a bag anyway using clippings and matte medium (which is basically clear acrylic paint). Maybe I'll add other acrylic colors, too. I'm not sure. I might also make a bag kind of like this one using some sort of fabric as a liner/base and adhering the newspaper all over with more matte medium. It might be kind of stiff, but maybe that's good. Hmmm.

I think I love matte medium.

Uh-oh. How am I ever going to focus on my essay with plans for new bags running through my head?! I should stop procrastinating and stay away from this forum when I have work...but it's so hard!
