ODDA #8 Spring-Summer 2015

First Look: ODDA #8, The Decades Issue

Talk about ambition. To celebrate their third anniversary, ODDA Magazine’s latest issue celebrates well over a hundred years of fashion, stretching from Charles Frederick Worth’s turn* of the* century couture to the menswear we’ll be wearing next fall. “The decision about making a Decades issue talking about the history of fashion was due to my fascination for this industry and how we evolved from the past to the present, always looking at how the past made us who we are now,” explains editor *in* chief David Martin.

He and his team have pulled together a collection of snapshots of years past, starting with eight different covers, each representing a different decade. Paris Hilton pops in Moschino for the Nineties, while Baptiste Giabiconi channels Brando for the Fifties. The pages within celebrate the legacies of Ferragamo, Balenciaga, and Givenchy—the originals—as well as current designers who return time and again to touchstone eras, from the elegance of Ralph Lauren’s Thirties to Vivenne Westwood’s punk Seventies.

The issue is awash with contradictions and different perspectives. Alex Loomans is straight out of Gatsby and Thorben Gartner marks the current day in Italo Zucchelli’s sporty designs. Lieke Van Houten and Nicolas Ripoll embody the romanticism of Forties Spain in Dolce & Gabbana and Daan van der Deen wears Calvin Klein to relive the athletic Nineties. For an industry that is constantly obsessed with what’s new and what’s next, the issue offers a primer on where we came from, answering, gloriously and powerfully, the eternal question of how we got here with a preview of where we’re headed. Take a look at an exclusive preview below.
