There's a reprint of this editorial in Vogue China September 2007 as a part of their "when fashion meets art" theme.
So happy to see her pictures in print again, though it's like 4 years old...:p

Just thought I would mention that she writes a lot for the Elle.com blog... it's really random.:lol:

 That's new to me...

*runs to elle.com and back*

new york, london, milan, or paris? who's the best? who wins?
each of these cities have there ups and downs when it comes to their individual fashion week. the winner really depends on who is asking because we all have different likes and different dislikes. are you interested in the creativity? practicality? the most inspirational? quirky and fun? the fact is, all designers please a certain audience and these designers come in all shapes, sizes, and countries.. so really the question should be who is the best designer for me ?? and which country has the most enjoyable fashion week?
ewww. i just looked at my legs... and you would think i haven't looked at them in months... which apparently i haven't. forget that they're bruised from top to bottom, but there is so much hair on them i'm going to need a weedwacker to get through it. so gross.. at least it's blonde.
ok, back to the fashion capitals..they're all the best. they all have great parties, great clothes and very interesting people...it's never dull. lets take a look........
NEW YORK________ my personal favorite

the weather here is still nice.. (well for most ppl, i prefer the cooler weather) by the time paris comes around and you haven't packed a coat..it's a little frustrating. this year in ny it's hot as the hottest.
no smoking! .. a downer for a lot of people but it's the last stop of the show season to breathe
for those of us who live here.. you're home..meaning no hotels.. your friends and your own things..it's the little things in life....
i love american designers.. you get a little bit of everything.. marc jacobs is always so exciting and creative, michael kors is wearable glam, anna sui is like being in a dream and ralph lauren is your basic classic american look.
the downsides of nyc- it really smells in ny when it's this hot.
the taxi strike, awfully convenient don't you think? and they charge like 12x the normal price! i had a man literally push me out of the way for a cab yesterday... "i don't think so hunny, this is my cab!" my guess is that he really had to go to the bathroom and needed to get home asap
LONDON__________ also a favorite
the good....
the energy in london is fantastic. all of the great british guys and girls really get into the english spirit! and they all want everyone to feel it too... word to the wise, never put down england to the english..bad move.
the parties, everyone is out to have the best time possible.. and this is the place to do it....
thrifting.... an all time favorite
the bad.. a lot of people sadly skip london, claiming there isn't enough there....there is
another check mark for the fashion week diet! beans on toast anyone? no thanks....
it's a tad less put together (the last time i was there..totally could have changed) this can go under the good catagory too...
MILAN____________a favorite as well......
the designers here are just remarkable, maybe it's just the italian accent for me but, they all just seem so serious here.
shopping- umm, yes.thank you
everyone says the food... but honestly i don't really like italian food....
coffee..excuse me expresso- american coffee you ask? just don't, bad move 2.
not so good...
a lot (sorry milanians)
its dark, sad, not pretty, and just depressing
the drivers?? umm, there is a road...
PARIS____________always a favorite
again, the shopping..
the history, the beauty, it makes all the difference....
the designers.. duh. chanel, dior, balenciaga, and on and on and on......
zee bad..
now it's chilly and you didn't pack your coat.
the hotels... i'm' picky .. but the costes for me is small and dark and.. i don't know.. the rest...well have you been in a broom closet before? that'll give you the idea.. i like the bristol, that's my favorite, the fact that it's 600$/night has nothing to do with it.. :)
the smoke....... there's so much tobacco being inhaled at this very moment, i'm actually having trouble breathing from here in ny
SO, that's my 2 cents for now... im off to the alexander wang show and i still haven't showered from this morning ( i spent too much time trying on beautiful clothes)

I cannot do my own hair
FLASHBACK: NY Fasion Week, spring 1998
I had never worn heels, and I mean never. Flipflops: check. Sneakers, Doc Martens: check check; cleats: now, those I would put in the "high heel" category. Check. So, you can imagine the horror I felt walking into my Marc Jacobs fitting. The skirt I thought, cute. Not what I'd normally wear but, pretty. The top, wow! This feels so much nicer then my field hockey sweatshirt (intro to cashmere 101)! But what in the world are those things with poles sticking out of them that they are trying to put on my feet? Yeah, apparently models are suppossed to be good at that. Marc and Robert were so sweet to me. They probably thought it was funny seeing me walk like I was on stilts, but they were great. They gave me some tips and for some reason unknown to me, still put me in the show. From there I was instructed to go to 8th street, buy the highest pair of heels I could find and spend 24/7 in them. So I did as I was told: I went directly to Manolo Blahnik (they were prettier then the hookerish 8th St ones) and bought a $2400 pair of crocodile skin beautiful very high heels(which just last spring my 'darling' golden retriever used for anger management, so sad). Anyway, slowly and after repeatedly embarrassing myself I started getting the hang of it.
FAST FOWARD: NY Fashion Week, spring 2008
With my beautiful heels gone the way of the west, I'm taking fashion week from a different point of view. This season, I'm going to be watching the shows with the editors from ELLE, and I am really excited to see what's out there! I'm also planning to stop by a few fashion parties, hang around the backstage a bit, and come report to you what's good, and what's not good. I'll do my best to be kind to all but, unfortunately i'm pretty opinionated when it comes to fashion. One thing I am particularly interested in learning about is the girls on the runway. First of all, I don't know any of them really, but I think it will be interesting for me to watch them, having been there myself. Also, I really wonder: Were all of them born knowing how to walk on stilts?

By the way, and last thing because I'm supposed to be at the Rag and Bone show at 4 (it's now 1:19), and I haven't even figured out what I'm wearing or thought about a shower (nice, I know). What I want to say is that i think models are given a disadvantage in the "doing my own hair catagory." Whether you're at the studio, on location, or getting ready for a show, there is always someone making your hair look flawless. How mean is that?!?! I generally like having long hair, for no other reason than I'm really great at throwing it into a knot. Unfortunately for me, this winter I thought it would be a nice idea to give myself a hair trim, which turned out to be a horrible mistake, and therefore I've had it in no less then 12 bobbypins since then (clearly not knowing any other option because of those awful hairdressers). Sorry, I'm taking forever to make a point. Yesterday, Tommy at Sally Hershberger gave me a cut/style/trim that I was really happy with when i left but, when I took a shower last night and didn't have Tommy to style it and blow it out--am I making my point? Hairdressers have spoiled me and now I cannot do my own hair. I have no clue where to start and unless it miraculously grows six inches in the next two and a half hours so I can put it into a knot, I will look like a mushroom while watching Rag and Bone
