Makeup Brushes

I'm really happy with e.l.f brushes. You can buy them for a song (more like a hum actually) and they work great for everyday applications. More sophisticated/artistic looks would best be achieved with other products...but even that would depend on your own skills. So I definitely recommended e.l.f.

Remember, too, never let them dry brush side up to prevent water from dripping and tarnishing/rusting/damaging the wand.

Very much agree. In doing so, the water will loosen the adhesive, resulting in the wand being detached and/or bristles shedding

Also, don't forget to clean the handles as they accumulate dirt and oil from our hands. Depending on how you store your brushes, the handles often touch the bristles of other brushes, thus transferring all that ****. You can use rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit to either spray the handles directly or use paper towel and wipe them down.

Thank you all so much for the tips..I'm such a noob even tho I've been using makeup for almost 10 years now..(wow I'm old:huh:) I really really appreciate you sharing you knowledge and experience with me:woot::heart:

I just ordered some more ELF brushes...two concealer brushes and another eye blending brush (my fave eye brush EVER). And they are so cheap!

Has anyone tried Japonesque brushes? I have my eyes on this one

I love my Japonesque brushes! I haven't tried the one in your link, but I have a cuople of concealer brushes and the small detailer eyeshadow brush, and the quality is great, especially considering the modest price.

I bought some eco brushes at what used to be my local pharmacy and they're great, and they were pretty cheap too. The powder brush is just as soft as the one I bought from B. Brown.

Were they ecotools brushes? I bought a set of them yesterday and the blush/powder brush is so soft it's ridiculous!

I get my make up brushes from Smashbox. Well worth their price and they do an amazing job.

I love the Face & Body brush for buffing in mineral face powder, even if it's more so targeted towards a blush/bronzer application. The bristles are tightly dense but it's really soft at touch and no left-behind hairs sticking to you.

Wish they expanded their line of makeup brushes though, pricey but worth it.

^^Mine are standing (with the bristles up of course) in a glass, easy to choose from when applying makeup and the most sanitary imo.

Has anyone tried Sam from Pixiwoo's Real Techniques brushes? I wonder what the quality is like, although from what I hear it is quite good.

^ I want to know too...reviews that i've seen have been favourable. i'm thinking of picking up the core collection this weekend....i don't need them, but i want them!

I really want to try them out as well! I think I'd go for the Travel Essentials set

I have the 3 Louise Young foundation brushes and I like them all:

LY01 - mini foundation taklon

LY02 - Foundation Taklon

LY34 - Super Foundation

I am using the LY02 the most (for daily use, well in case I use foundation that is  )

BTW thenonblonde.blogspot.com has extensive reviews of A LOT of high-end brushes. Hakuhodo, Burberry, Chanel and so on. REALLY helpful. I love brushes :D

I'm looking into Louise Young because my eyes are tiny and I need a pointed blending brush to do crease work. And of course I see the pixiwoo girls using her LY38 brush...:D But right now I'm moving, so my first priority is to buy furniture and other boring stuff.

I forgot to post back here! I ended up getting the real techniques core collection the next day and i have fallen in love with them!! they are so soft...like so fluffy and amazing. my favorite is definitely the buffing brush. i've used it with all types of foundation - liquid, tinted moisturizer, mineral - and it does a great job with all of them. i cant even tell you how good it is at buffing in liquid foundation...it gives the most flawless finish. I also love the contouring brush...the size is perfect for my cheeks. i use it to put a bit of benefit hoola in the hollows of my cheeks and it looks so good! i love how its tapered bc you can get a little bit on the tip and the rest of the brush blends it perfectly.

although i do like the other two brushes in the collection, I could definitely do w/o them..the pointed foundation brush is too small for foundation, so I sometimes use it for under eye concealer and the detailer brush is handy for doing precision work, but honestly most of the time i can be bothered to reach for it. it's not that they're bad brushes, i just don't really have much use for them.

in fact, i wish that these brushes could be bought individually....i don't like how you have to buy the whole set, as from the looks of it all the sets have a dud or two in them. i really want to get the eye blending brush that they've been using for concealer in their recent vids, but I don't want any of the other brushes in that set. other than that, i really do recommend them!!

eeek sorry that was so long!!

I've heard good things about the Sam Chapman brushes. I think the set is such a good deal. It typically costs about $20 or more for one MAC brush, so for a whole set of decent brushes to cost less than that seems A + to me. I haven't ordered any though. I really want to try and save up for some Hakuhodos.
