true i meant in gen, i wish he would more, but i think most dont, is it a faux pah if one smiles in the fashion world, when getting ones photo taken?

No it's not. Many models smile a lot (Alexander Ferrario, Nick Heyman, Peter Bruder, RJ King...), some almost never smile (Ben Allen), and most of them are in between.
Some only smile to fellow models and not to photographers (Malcolm...), while others purposefully smile to photographers.
Smiling on the runway is bad, but backstage and after shows, it's great.
