I don't think any bag is truly classic -- at least in the sense that most of you are using.
Even the bags that are considered "classic" today (Birkin, Chanel flap, Vuitton) were considered totally out of fashion for many years -- worn only by little old ladies who were "beyond" fashion -- and I don't mean in a timelessly elegant way.
I could be wrong but I doubt anyone who spends time on these boards would have been caught dead in a Chanel "classic" bag 10 or 15 years ago - unless Betsy Bloomingdale is lurking -- I mean did any of you seriously want to emulate Nancy Reagan's wardrobe?
You might think Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was timeless but her wardrobe was very modern and trendsetting -- within the parameters of her lifestyle, age etc. She had style and was elegant but also incorporated trends.
