Paying homage and thanking Marc for opening not one, but three flagship stores on Melrose Place, were Mischa Barton, Winona Ryder, Selma Blair, Tori Spelling, Debi Mazar (in all white), Michelle Hicks (in a strapless burgundy Marc Jacobs gown), Gina Gershon, Catherine O’Hara, Rachel Bilson, Monet Mazur, Ann Magnuson and a stunning Raquel Welsh, who reminded The Daily that she designs a line of high-end wigs. Was that a hint, Raquel darling?
The guys love MJ too. Owen Wilson, Jeremy Piven, Giovanni Ribisi, Guy Oseary, Sean Hayes, Brendan Fraser, Vincent Gallo, Flea, Roman Coppola, and Chris Kattan all made the scene. Marilyn Manson smooched girlfriend Dita von Teese on a square pink couch. Topher Grace and Jared Leto greeted each other with a warm bear hug, while nearby Balthazar Getty sat huddled in deep conversation with Frances Ford Coppola. Unfortunately, Sofia Coppola, one of the evening’s hosts, couldn’t make it, as she’s on-set in Paris shooting Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst.
There was glamour in every nook and cranny of the tent: Nicole Richie arrived with her fiancé, DJ AM and Nicky Hilton, Debbie Harry caught up with manager Jason Weinberg (think Hilary Swank), and even Betsey Bloomingdale enjoyed ogling the semi-nude dancers with butterfly wings and skimpy bikini bottoms made of leaves, gyrating on flowered platforms to loud disco music. Kirsty Hume reminded The Daily that her daughter, Violet, is turning one this Monday. Sexy Zoe Cassavetes told us she is now living in both Paris (where her French boyfriend resides) and New York.
The fashion flock were out in full force: designers Magda Berliner, Louis Verdad, Victor Alfaro, Henry Duarte, photographers Dewey Nicks and Terry Richardson, models Carolyn Murphy (with boyfriend Brandon Boyd of Incubus), Guinevere van Seamus and Frankie Rayder, editors Lisa Love, Elizabeth Stewart, Booth Moore and Jacobs’ best pal, Anna Sui. Anna Wintour arrived with boyfriend Shelby Bryan and daughter Bee Schaffer. When Wintour showed up at around 9:30pm, the crowd pushing to get in had swelled so large that The Queen of Vogue had to wait a few minutes before being ushered inside. Richie Rich, Traver Rains, and Aimee Phillips saw that the velvet ropes weren’t parting instantly for Wintour, and the Heatherette trio decided to bail. Ditto for Cornelia Guest, who wasn’t up for the fight to get inside the tent.
But the chaos of slipping into the party was worth it. With bunches and bundles of roses everywhere and an Astroturf floor, Jacobs’ party was a garden of glamorous delights. Guests*agreed that*it was one of the best events L.A. had seen since, well, since the Vanity Fair Oscar party. And that’s saying something. The cute waiters all wore pink Marc Jacobs T-shirts and served delicious bites like lobster salad rolled in cucumber, from Crumble Catering. In the middle of the tent, which took up a large chunk of Melrose Place and was lit by hundreds of hanging Chinese lanterns, was a thumping dance floor, replete with boogying babes sporting enormous Afros made of flowers. At one end, a photo area had been set up where guests could pose in front of the large mural of a field of red flowers.
