Margarita Babina

I just found on telegraph.co.uk a few small but recent pics of Margarita! :woot:
Apparently, they're from an english catalogue done by a famous vintage shop of London.
Here's the link to the article:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/main.jhtml?xml=/fashion/2005/03/15/efvintage15.xml

And here's just a few lines:

The Gallery of Antique Costume and Textiles in London is like no other vintage shop. Founded almost 30 years ago by Lionel Segal, and now run by his children, Kyra and Justin, it has become the first port of call for models and celebrities looking for unique pieces and for designers seeking inspiration.

Kate Moss came for the decadent Thirties gown that she wore to her 30th birthday party. Stella Tennant is a regular visitor and Jennifer Lopez is also a fan.

However, even before the current craze for all things vintage, the shop was an in-the-know treasure trove for beautiful clothes.

"It's probably easier to name designers who don't come in," says Justin Segal. "Everyone comes here. All of the big American designers, such as Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan; Rosita Missoni has been coming here for years to get inspiration; Stella McCartney and all the Chloé girls come. They trawl through old fabrics, and will get really excited by some old geometric print."

This spring [2005], the shop will launch its first own-label collection.

Has anybody from UK ever seen that catalogue? :innocent::blush:
Scans would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!! :buzz::flower:

:buzz: I've found an interview of Margarita!!! :buzz:

It's from a russian mag from her native Kaliningrad, those of you who speak russian can read the original ---> here ;)

^_^ For all the non-russian speakers, here's my translation:

LIFE ON THE VERGE OF EXTREME

The winner of "Supermodel of the world 2000" contest, Margarita Babina, works abroad; she's a model of famous Ford agency. On her track from Athens to Tokyo, she stopped a while in her native Kaliningrad, where our correspondant managed to interview her.

A bus instead of a limo

Rita, you came to the appointment on a bus!

"I'm gonna delude you: I haven't got a limo, nor even a simple 'Zhiguli'
[a cheap and old russian car from soviet times]. First of all, I'm 17 and I couldn't drive a car. Secondly, I'm always awfully out of free time to take driving lessons. And in the West I really don't need a car. If you're heading for a show, the biggest problem is finding a parking! There's so much people anyway, that you'd have to leave the car many blocks away...
...And then again, I was missing russian atmosphere, and coming here on a bus was the best way to find it back!"

You went to New York all alone at 15. Wasn't it hard?

"It was very difficult. America loves professionalism and expertise...and I was starting from nihil. I had problems with the language - I had only studied english six months before going there. In the States at first I spoke very few, I rather tried to listen and understand what people were saying. The agency took charge of all everyday problems...I shared a flat with 6 people, we were 2 russian models, and more russians lived on the lower floor. We organised little parties on the roof, singing russian songs and cooking shashlyki
[a typical russian dish].
New York is my town, I really love it..."

Starving, but proud

"In Japan I understood that being a model is a hard job. Wake up at 4:30, no time for breakfast, off to work - running outdoor, with still wet hair, in february. Shootings all day, with only a 30-minutes pause. Back home at 10pm. I barely had forces enough to pull myself till the bed.
In my first week in Tokyo, I practically starved. I kept staring at those unknown products, asking myself 'are these edible or what?'. I became very skinny..."

Didn't you want to go back to your mom?

"My new life didn't leave me no rights to be weak. I had to become indipendent and adult before time. I was only 14, when I won the contest. I want to thank my cool agent, Tatiana Fedorovna Cherkas, and the director of School #25, Aleksandra Fedorovna Davydovskaya. They've been so fiercely on my side, they almost shouted to public officers: 'Give this child a chance!'. They allowed me to finish school as an extern.
There wasn't time to study in high school, but I'm gonna complete my studies without any doubt...I'm interested in the Technical Design Institute in Saint Petersburg..."

Gotcha, Kirkorov!

"Modeling biz is something on the verge of extreme, a fight for survival. Continuously in motion , always flying from one place to another, with all the climate changes, all the stress...
At a show in New York I was wearing high heels, with awfully long strings: I didn't manage to walk in those till the end of the runway, they started unfastening. I went back more skating than walking!
Once I had to pose on a high roof, in a long gown, with a strong wind
[which was trying to pull her off the roof]. And again, I had to 'drown' in a haycock, roll myself in the sand...and in London I was hanged with ropes on a ceiling. The shoot was at 3am and they used those intense lights, they were so hot! I felt as if they were trying to burn me alive!
In Tokyo I had to pose in a very revealing outfit in the middle of the street at peak time.
What I haven't been told that time!"

Does it happen often to work with celebs?

"I've seen so many stars at the musical awards "Golden Grammophone". I gave flowers to all the winners. I really liked Leont'ev, he said 'Thanks a lot', staring me right in the eyes. Pugacheva was pretty cold instead. Recently at Sharov's show I jumped into Kirkorov, he was energically practicing his walk backstage. I stared at him, unable to hide my surprise, and he was embarassed: 'I'm acting weird, huh?'.
[she's talking of people famous in Russia].
I've worked with famous designers as Jil Sander and Rebecca Taylor. My photos appeared in Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Marie Claire, L'Officiel, Bazaar and many more mags."

A $500,000 necklace

The most important thing at a shoot is not to ruin anything. You always get to wear thousands-dollars dresses, and the designers keep coming by and checking that everything is in order. If you ruin the clothes, you get fined. Once I had to work with a necklace made of diamonds, pearls and platinum. Price: $500,000..."

What's your personal style?

"Comfortable and extremely simple clothes. I don't spare money for jeans, bags, shoes and glasses; of all the rest, I use the most ordinary.
I don't eat sweet nor fat. And I don't smoke...actually, in fashion biz that's a true rarity!
I'm 177 cms, 55 kgs."

How's your private life?

"Without exaggeration, I've got a bunch of admirers. I often have to turn off the phone and sneak back home. I keep receiving SMS with love declarations. Look, I got one right today:
'You don't know me, but you made me loose my head. xxx from Kaliningrad
'
Thanks! My heart ain't taken. I've had some relationships, but they couldn't last. I'm running around the world and often I just don't know where I'm gonna be tomorrow..."

p.s.

"Rita, baby, you don't know me, but...:brows: - xxx from Como"

Now I just have to know her mobile number! :p
