On Flexibility: Pieces Ripe for Reimagining

The integral elements of one’s wardrobe are rarely the most obvious. It is the scaled back, more modest pieces—a matching sweatshirt and skirt with an intriguing animal print, sophisticated slip-ons in an understated hue, a sharply tailored pair of patterned pants—that strengthen one’s style and keep it eternally fresh. Each of these pieces does not comprise an ensemble in and of itself, but fluidly migrates between a range of looks, enhancing, and being enhanced by, the pieces with which it is combined. Different contexts reveal new aspects of an element’s character, and how it can be reimagined for a new season, setting, or mood.
By assembling a wardrobe of unique, multifaceted items, one is equipped with a seemingly infinite number of possible looks, approaching the elusive goal of never having to wear the same outfit twice.
When seeking a genuinely versatile piece, simplicity is key. Far from ostentatious, the most reliable elements of one’s wardrobe often stand out for the precision of their shape and the quality of their construction.
