Marni, the conceptual Italian label that uses unusual materials such as plastic in its clothes, is taking on a fashion basic: jeans. Marni and Current/Elliott will be launching a co-branded line of denim later this year, Marni chief executive Gianni Castiglioni said Sunday backstage after the house’s Milan fashion show.
Don’t expect a traditional five-pocket style though. “The product we did is not classic,” Mr. Castiglioni said.
Current/Elliott’s baggy boyfriend jeans put the LA-based denim label on the fashion map a couple of years ago. Created by two stylists-turned-designers, the line of vintage-looking jeans sells in the sweet-spot premium category of about $200.
Meanwhile, Marni is looking for other new ways to grow. The fashion house is considering getting into perfume in the future, Mr. Castiglioni added.
