Im not surprised with MMM opening in HK..now we'll have kids wearin MMM and BAPE! just great!...i appreciate the fact that theyre opening tho..
BUt the surprise was that ANN DEM is opening...tokyo is fine..but HK? i suppose there is a market..but i hope ANN dem doesnt go too commercial..she wont.

i agree with that, and the market of ANN DEM and MMM in Hong Kong are not as big as Dior Homme nowadays.

anyway i'm interested to see the decoration in MMM.

went to see the exhibition today. I think it is an attempt to explain the different lines to the hk consumers who are unfamiliar with the brand, with the exhibits curated according to various numbers.

My favorite was the top floor where the design process of the other stores were shown, complete with before/after pictures and margiela's sketches (using pens and white correction fluid). There is also a video showing how the giant tabi boots balloons were being made in japan.

just heard the news about the MMM store and Ann D. store from the HK radio station....and they said that Raf Simons might open a store in HK too(maybe on the same street?)

some great Belgian invasions...very exciting

why HK? Seems rather a strange choice. Is there something I don't know?

There are some select shops that carry Raf Simons and Ann D. in HK. My guess is that the brands are doing pretty good and they see the opportunity to give it a little push in the area. And it seems like HK is the second potential place in Asia that designers look into after the Japanese market. Just my guess.

Anyhow I am very excited to see all these stores coming up. More choices to the people.

doesnt Hong Kong contain some of the richest people at the moment? I know the average for an appartment is 2 million in the city. Also chinese/japanese culture is the inspiration for deconstructed clothing-- e.g. comme des garcons, so i feel that HK is a perfect place for such stores for the rich woman who isnt afraid to wear it. Plus such places can be an investment if the line becomes more globally recognized...its good to get in before real estate prices rise even more! :D

not to sound cynical but probably one of the reasons MMM has opened in Hong Kong is because the people of Hong Kong are seriously LOADED. it has a very high standard of living and enough people with enough interest to purchase the clothes.

well my point itself was a bit petty... i was just expressing my concern for some low key labels...afraid that they might blow up to the point of pharell williams wearing MMM or ann dem... and a million kids copying that.
I am well aware of the money that is floating...and especially in a highly status driven and consumer society like in HK..

i guess people like CdG and Yohji have been around for years and havent really found their way onto a Pharell like celebrity. The aesthetic just isnt right. Actually, I think Marilyn Manson wears Yohji but that hasn't seemed to tarnish YY. My guess is it's safe!

^well, that's the point really. they have been around for quite some time....both designers debuted their collections in 1988,so one would venture to say that they are what many consider established designers. one more than the other a bit more underrated however, but the fact remains. also,MMM has more money to do such things now with his partnership with diesel and Ann has a great new backer. i don't think if they didn't have that extra cash, there would only be MMM Paris and Brussels(and maybe not even those) and Ann's shop in Antwerp. and even though you may not think so,ann's clothes are just as popular in the streets as Yohji is.
