Max Mara F/W 2023.24 Milan

It's quintessential Max Mara, so it's good. But I honestly had to skip through the video because it felt like bit of a drag with all the looks.

How depressing when people get most excited about a Max Mara show. Lol
Says a lot about the state of fashion these days..
I mean they're good clothes, but it's far from the epitome of high fashion.

I don't find this collection inspiring at all; it is something I would expect in NY fashion week. And I really don't geat all those leather belts and gloves. Not working for me.

I mean Max Mara knows who they are and what they stand for so if it's good why not enjoy and be excited about it?

In terms of designs, this collection is essential for Max Mara. This may be the most fashionable collection that I've seen from Ian. My favorite look is the Imaan dress and the look above. And the coats still look so luxurious.

What I think not working is the styling. I always thought that the stylist is as important as the designer at Max Mara. So I don't like what Tonne has done this season.
There are a lot of gimmicky styling tricks in this collection, like the way the models wear the coats on one side, I know they tried to create a silhouette for the show, but I find it quite gimmicky. And the gloves are not needed.
Strip down all of it and have better shoes that can elevate this collection.

Overall I still like this but I expected better from both Ian and Tonne.

I like the belts more than I like the collection…
I know it’s their signature but less camel for winter sometimes can be good too.

Hahaha! 20 years ago, this offering, from its silhouette to color-palette, would just be the standard, run-of-the-mill NYC trope, from Donna to Kors: Cozy, plush knits; big lush coats; tasteful tailored pantsuits, and all in luxe fabrics and a conservative, complimentary color-palette. No one would be the least excited— and likely dismissing it as boring...

A flawless collection from Ian Griffiths! I love how the collection just flows from start to finish in terms of the colour palette, which makes the collection even more enjoyable. Great styling, impeccable coats, perfectly presented and oh so luxurious and sophisticated!

But does a Donna or a MK customer was a Max Mara customer tho?
Max Mara has always been consistent in terms of pure product and it honesty ( well made, good pricing, good fabrics) but always lacked the narrative needed to be part of a fashion conversation.

As much as I can appreciate MK shows, his universe is kinda abstract in a « real world ». I know women who buys Max Mara and all the other brands like Sportmax…

MaxMara has nothing to envy to the other brands much more expensive in it segment imo. That being said, too much camel lol

Ehhh, it’s kinda cheesy.

I’m not really feeling it. Reminds me of Nordstrom.

It’s a very solid collection. Not a drag on Max Mara. They’ve always been doing this sort of high(er)-end quality, but very middle-of-the-road and accessible fashion staples even back when Donna Karan reigned (and sadly has now been licensed off to consumer-budget suits). It's all decent, no-nonsense investment pieces that will still look good a long time from now. Just that, this level of quality standard, along with this level of design, was common 20 years ago. And that it’s something exceptional and so swooned over nowadays, truly speaks of how dire most labels are. (Imagine in 2003, saying that Max Mara would easily best Prada/Fendi/Armani some day: You’d be laughed out of existence… And here we are, in 2023, and Max Mara is leagues above Prada/Fendi/Armani.)
