Maybe because of history, brand perception and to some sense an actual contribution to fashion at large rather than a perception through today’s eyes and most of all through the actual fashion landscape.

MaxMara has been around since the 50’s and they were among the pioneers in that concept of RTW of high quality that could be up there with Couture in terms of creativity and craftmanship while having an industrial approach.
A bit similar to what happened with Italian interior and industrial design.

And when you look at the roaster of designers that has worked for them since the 60’s, it’s quite impressive.

And they have solidified their place in fashion when they connected their designs to fashion imagery through their campaigns and their choices of photographers.

And MaxMara has never been a « luxury brand ». There’s an idea of status with Michael Kors that can then sell the illusion of luxury for Michael Michael Kors.

However I would gladly admit that some of their lines are like an elevated version of Banana Republic in quality.
But the runway and Atelier lines are exquisite and they have been very consistent over all those years.
