Okay okay, I know this topic has been done soo many times, but my case has a little twist on it.
So I have a huge, ugly, black back pack that I need to get rid of because i've found a way to not carry so many books.
Now, what I want is something trendy and nice and ... you know. But it has to be really ... well, not expensive.
I know my mom won't buy it for me, and I actually can't have a job. [She won't let me! ... vicious circle, eh?]. So i need something affordable but not gross.
I know there's things like that out there, but i'm totally blanking on them!

Thanks in advance! ;)

The Gap has really nice, affordable messengers! :flower:

Not sure exactly what your range is but I have had a pink Dickies messenger bag for two years and its in great condition. They come in a bunch of sizes, colors, and in some sizes they have neat designs. Hope this helps :flower:

Oh yeah! I forgot about Dickies.
Dickies has awesome messenger bags. I actually have one, in black. It's the largest size, and it's very economical and can hold TONS of stuff. <3

I'm starting fashion school in the fall and I was thinking about buying a messenger bag to carry everything around in but do you guys think thats a good idea? Are messenger bags not fashiony enough? Suggestions?

I almost always wear a messenger bag, it's that convenient. I'd recommend the swiss brand FREITAG, well fashionable depends on your own choice and view... every bag has a different color combination, unless you choose mono colored ones

I already posted pics in this post http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/1047994-post8.html

I also like them cos they are water/rainproof, as long as you don't take a bath with it, your stuff will stay dry.

I like messenger bags so I think it's a good idea. :)

There are a number of threads with many suggestions, try search with the word "messenger" in the search text box.

My personal favorites:

Timbuk2
Freitag
Chrome
Crumpler *warning, annoying Flash web site with music and "wacky, goofy" stuff

These are all fairly heavy-duty bags, long on function and short on designer cred, so may not be your cup of tea. See the search results for more fashion-y bags.

thanks for your help ambidextrous and tangerine! im glad to know others like messenger bags also and the links are very helpful, now i have a lot of good options! thanks!...also if anyone else has any suggestions please post them!

thanks passerby! i dont know why i was unsure that messenger bags were fabulous but im glad now i know they are! thanks for your suggestions! I love the one with little elephants! thats adorable!

oh and my budget is $50 max, i would say a little more but i'd rather buy something a little cheaper so i won't feel guilty if i want more than one. i think i want a black one so it goes with everything and a cute one like maybe the elephant one for when i'm feeling fun.

The colors are a bit boring but I consider this to be the ultimate messenger bag -- I had a khaki green version in college and it was just great! You can embellish it yourself !!

oops - tangiblelove I just read your budget max, you can get similar messengers at army surplus stores.
