Miley Cyrus' 16th birthday bash at Disneyland this weekend was this close to being a party many of her special guests, and their parents, would never forget. But probably not for the reasons Miley or Mickey, intended.
In what is presumably an oversight on someone’s part, the “Hannah Montana” star’s Sweet 16 celebration with 5,000 of her closest fans this Sunday (October 5, though her actual birthday’s in November) happens to coincide with the last day of the park’s annual unofficial Gay Days, which draws 30,000 gay and lesbian visitors to the Happiest Place on Earth every fall.
When word broke about the double booking a few days ago, early reports erroneously had Disney folks dissing the Gay Days revelers and shutting them out of the park. But a Disneyland rep told "Access Hollywood" on Tuesday that in order to accommodate both groups, the park will be closing at 5 p.m. to guests not attending the Cyrus party. To make up for it, Disney will accommodate Gay Days guests after 5 p.m. at its sister park, Disney’s California Adventure, which will extend its hours to 11 p.m.
The Gay Days organization seems to be taking the shift in stride. “Yes, Miley Cyrus is having her birthday at Disneyland on Sunday, October 5, and Disneyland will be closing at 5 p.m. that day,” reads a note on its Web site. “That’s our scheduled day at Disney’s California Adventure, so we don’t foresee any changes to Gay Days Anaheim. Although we would love her to come sing for us!”

whining much? this article gives another side
We have to admit we were a bit shocked that Miley Cyrus would choose to have her sweet 16 party at Disneyland the same weekend that tens of thousands of gays are scheduled to descend upon the park for the annual Gay Days celebration. Sure, Miley is a bona fide diva-in-training and the 5,000 screaming teenage girls spending $250 each to attend the birthday party probably have similar tastes in music as most of the gays who would be cruising in the hour-long line for Space Mountain, but still, something just didn't added up. And we were right. It's now been announced that Disneyland will close early Saturday, October 4, to prepare for Miley's party and the gays will be forced to cavort else where for the evening. It just goes to show that no matter how far we think we've come, one 15-year-old with a live mic gets priority over 30,000 LGBT folks ready to spend their disposable incomes on $22 burgers and $46 rainbow-tinged mouse ears.
