Knowledge of geography and history is dismal these days. After my 15 year old brother made a comment about me being born shortly after "the war" (I thought he meant Vietnam, he was talking Civil I started quizzing him on a few things, and got answers such as "Germany was divided into North and South" and "The Holocaust happened in Japan". Boy doesn't read, and can't be bothered to listen either. So thinking Kiev is in Russia isn't so bad, all things considered.
