Monica Vitti

Monica Vitti was an Italian actress, born in 1931.

She epitomised frosty sensuality and was a very favourite muse of Michelangelo Antonioni, who's films she starred in during the '50's, such as L'Avventura, Red Desert, La Notte and L'Eclise.

The most commercial film she made was Modesty Blaise.

Eve Arnold, the photographer, revealed in her book how self-conscious Monica Vitti was of her Nefertiti nose and demanded no shots of her profile. She was convinced it was ugly as she had been told that in profile she looked like a housemaid.

I love her, she's definitely my favourite italian actress (even though I adore
Claudia Cardinale and Stefania Sandrelli).
I've got some pics (mostly from Antonioni's books), I'll post them as soon as I got home.
She was so beautiful and enchanting acting next to Alain Delon in L'Eclisse.

I really don't think pictures do any justice to her magnificent beauty. When I first watched L'Eclise, I was stunned when her face appeared on the screen. She had such an impact! And a slendid actress too: her technic and mastery was such that she could convey deep emotions and complexity just with a glare. So fascinating.
To me, she, algonside Ava Gardner, was the most beautiful actress ever.

I've only seen Blow-up by Antonioni and it became one of my favorite films- unfortunately, like karina, his movies are unavailable here, I watched blow up on TV and havent seen anything else from him ever since.
Monica looks rather interesting, I want to see L'Eclise.

Last semester in film studies we watched L'Avventura and I thought Monica Vitti was excellent in it. She's very beautiful too and I couldn't imagine her with a different nose.
