Montreal Street Style

and Boluda I buy most of my stuff at ebay, so you can find designer bags that people have never heard off and are way less than 1000$, I'm not rich too, I'm even worth 1000$!!

to each their own, u might not wanna spend money on stuff like that, but there s tons of people who do.
as for plateau and st laurent north that s mainly hippy style and boho, and personally half of the time i think those people need a shower they look so ...dirty

Montreal does have some of the stylish people I've ever seen, it just seems that more and more you get those incredibly trendy fashion victims. The areas around Dawson, Concordia and McGill abound with them. And yeah, the plateau and St-Laurent does have stylish people but it's like the poster above me says, they are just people who have nailed the hippie look or the "hipster" look. And yeah, some of the hippie people really do look dirty.

^ Come to the Quartier Latin..... ^_^

I've rarely ever seen "real" hippies over here, most kids look really phony, it's almost dreadful..... Trying to stand out with their dreads, slouchy boho bag, their boho earrings and their vintage scarves...... ...and all succeeding at looking the same....

gahh i hate the hippy look - reminds me of University of Montreal students - just like i hate brand/logo-obsessed fashion...gotta find a balance

the people with t he most style are the ones that can mix and match, throw on a pair of designer jeans with vintage and thrift finds with village des valeurs boots and manage to look fabulous

victoria beckham with all her designer bags and clothes will never have style

(now if only i had the guts to photograph people on the street we'd have the best thread in this whole damn board :D)

^ This is a Montreal's style thread...

I don't believe having a "which-city-is-the-best" fight is going to be constructive

I'll do it this summer if I get some time...could be interesting to post in here...

I may try to work up the guts to do it! My friend and I always talk about writing a fashion column for the McGill newspaper and taking photo's of people's outfits. There are so many beautiful jackets and coats in Montréal! If I ever do get around to it, I'll make sure to post the pics on here! :flower:

ah, has it ever occured to you guys that maybe not all of us have 1000 bucks to blow on a designer bag?!

and if i save up for something, you can be sure as HELL i wouldnt spend it on the latest chloe or marc jacobs bag or alexander mcqueen skull scarf!! that just screams fashion victim.

style in montreal can be found sporadically in certain parts of the plateau, the mile-end, st-laurent NORTH (at night, st-laurent south near sherbrooke is to be avoided AT ALL COST!).

no way... what style do they have.. like le chateau or sirens... i cant stand montreal... all the girls where such trashy things. and when they dont they try like old "trendy" things that i was wearing two years ago. I dont know which is worse.

Where are all the people that know about marc jacobs, alexander mcqueen, hermes, fendi and even grail, 2bfree.... etc... please contact me i feel like im the only one in montreal that loves this stuff... plus the trendy factor is not what does it for me cause i would wear all this stuff if i was just going for the "trendy" look cause no one has a clue what im wearing.

I want to open up a store in montreal... i will have the financial backing from my parents in the future if i do so, but i just do not see anything fashionable doing well here. Unless, it is LV.

i think the girls with more money just have better style, the rest just try to hard

it is not only style, but also just montreal all alone that is annoy. Like, if you want to go to a nice trendy restaurant... all you get here is posers trying to look rich with below average food and service. It makes me sick to see every person around the room looking around to see if they are looking rich.

I just got back from nyc... and im not saying their isnt people like that there. But, atleast u can go to a nice trendy restaurant and have great food, atmosphere and people that are actually not trying so hard to be something they are not. Like, Nobu... trendy, but great food. Some posers, but not everyone

yes, but no. I mean my family has more money than the average person, but i do not even come close to people with MONEY. Like, money to buy only designer bags. I dont have money to blow on a 1200 dollar bag. I mean i will blow a 100 dollars on a shirt CDN and not care... But, that is not the point. Like, another poster said their is ebay. Plus most of the brands i like arnt even offered here. So, ebay is the place to go.

You can have style and not have millions of dollars

ohhh that s so not true. i know girls with tons of money yet no style. it s a known fact that money doesn t buy style so u re comment couldn t have been more wrong. it was never necessary to have money to have an interesting style, it s more about understanding fashion. usually money buys u brands and u can t do much with that other than to be a brand wh*re:innocent:

that is such bs.
i heard from many people that nobu in nyc is pretentious as hell.

im not sure what you're complaining about. montreal and nyc are the 2 north american cities iwth the most restaurants per capita. there are practically more restaurants than there are people here. there are trendy+good quality places like treehouse sushi place but i tend not to give a sh*t about trendiness. if the food is sweet so is the atmosphere it suits me.

good luck with your store. but agian, if you are going to be selling fendi, dont expect the masses to be flocking in. i KNOW about marc jacobs - and own a few things from the cheaper line, they sell it at holt - but prada, etc that is just way out of my league. and i HAVE money.

Nobu ... well i was there two days ago and i really cannot believe anyone would say that. I dont know if the people have changed. Even my mom who thought it was going to be snobby etc. because it was nobu was suprised. The service was amazing. Every dish was explained by your waitress and if your waitress was not there a bus boy described everything down to the last detail.... and i can honestly say the food was the best I have ever tasted. The only way I think people could think that it was pretentious is if they have only ate at the belle province their whole life and no where else.

Im just saying, in montreal you cant get both - nice place and good food. Globe, med, buona notte etc. = garbage. People think moishe's is good in Montreal... I think it is the worst ... food is below average, no artistic look to the food, annoying people = overpriced.

Cavalli is good.

Oh and the money comment... I guess it depends on what you considering having money means. I consider it to mean - able to buy basically anything you want and not having to worry.

???

globe, buona notte, etc are for wannabes and poseurs and nouveau riche. try toqué,milos, ferreira, chao praya and of course so many other places for people (read:STUDENTS!) on a budget that are good nonetheless.

by having money, i meant having 2 houses, traveling every summer on all 5 continents and generally leading a nice comfortable bourgeois life. YET im not logo/brand crazy and i hate pretentious "trendy" restaurants.

ah well. different strokes for different folks.
