MOTIVATION for drinking water!!!

^
not me, my skin is exactly the same, and i drink 2 liters. it does keep me in the bathroom all day, however.

well, water is not entirely a cure for all if you happen to consume foods that are considered bad. Its just that there seems to be a correlation between water drinkers (no soda etc) and good skin because those people happen to be concience of the foods they eat, hence the obession with drinking water in the first place.

Damn, I thought I drank a lot of water  6 or so 17 oz bottles a day, which comes to only 3 litres. I don't know how anyone could drink 6 or 7 litres!

Drusilla 3 litres is more than enough. But it depends on the weight, if you are overweight you have to drink more water (not that i think you are, just saying LOL)

Kateelle yes eating healthily is crucial also, but water is amazing for the skin because it cleanses your system, takes all the toxins out. BUT if you eat junk food ergo more toxins AND salt (which retains water), you need to drink even MORE WATER (more than 2.5 litres).

And also don't forget that bad skin isn't always because of your diet and/or your water consumption, it's also because of your hormones.

I'm reading a book about eating disorders and the way of finding a healthy way of eating. It's not a diet book or a book that will deliver wonders in a day. It's called Mattillåtet and is written by a Swedish dietitian Gisela Van Der Ster, who has worked for a long time with eating disordered people and has been taking a part in developing the helping programs to the eating disordered. The book gives a lot of information about nutrition, and in one chapter it tells about water. Now as many of us know, people who try to lose weight, or eat "healthy", tend to drink a lot of water. However, according to this book, the recommended amount of water consumed every day should be 1,5 - 2 litres, or if you work out a lot, around 2,5 - 3 litres. If you do drink more water, it is not good for you.

First of all, water does not "cleanse you inside". According to the book this is a myth, and eating a balanced diet and drinking that two litres a day is enough. Overconsuming water does not "wash you inside". Drinking two litres a day is crucial, yes, but more than that does not make a difference. There's no scientific proof that water would cleanse you inside.

If you do drink constantly, it messes up your body's natural way of feeling thirst. This mechanism of thirst goes hand in hand with the amount of salt you consume. Your blood needs salt, which will keep the right amount of water in your veins. If you don't get enough salt, your blood is not in a good shape and that will cause problems. Drinking too much water and eating less salt is not a good combination; the water goes straight through your system and your body is not able to use it to the things it needs it.

Drinking too much water, let's say 4-10 litres a day, is not healthy. According to the book, if you have been drinking this much water every day it is not good to reduce the amount immediately. Why? Because drinking this much water has enlargened the veins in your brain. If you immediately and quickly reduce the amount of water you will get heavy headaches.

With everything you should have balance. Don't believe in all those articles about how drinking a lot of water makes your system clean, that might harm you.

I am not giving medical advice here, and all I have said has been referenced from the book I mentioned in the beginning.

I think with everything we should have balance, and that includes water. Too much of it is not good for you. Don't believe in what you read about in diet magazines or articles about macrobiotic diets or detox.

I find that I have to associate water with something I'm doing in order to remember to drink it..for example when I make porridge in the morning, I make sure I fill up a big tumbler full of water. And then if I clean the house i'll say..okay after I've finished cleaning the bedroom and the bathroom i'll have a big glass of water. And so on. So that way I get to about 5-6 large tumblers a day (which I think is about 1.5 litres?)

that's when you exceed a certain amount in under 24 hours...

it also dilutes your blood leading you more prone to fainting... but aren't all excesses bad?

this is why i stopped fad dieting when i was around 17.

I usually alot of drink water or green tea to stop me from overeating (lol).

I don't trust any of those detoxes. If you simply stick to a healthy diet and keep well hydrated I don't see any reason for you to have to do a detox. It looks to me like it is basically a starvation diet..

Exactly, which is why I posted the link. There are too many people (especially very young and malleable people) who are easily convinced that water is good, no exceptions, so more is always better. Everyone should realise that is not the case and you can always go over the top and cause damage to yourself, which is why you should always do your own investigating and research before you believe everything you read/see/hear.

Edit - I had to add I am incredibly surprised and disappointed that this woman's nutritionist advised her to go on this detox and that getting seriously ill was normal! That's insane.

I only drink mineral water (no coffee, juices, etc.) and I drink between 2 and 3 litres a day and drinking more or less makes me feel bad now.

It was really difficult in the beginning because I literally wasn't used to drinking and only drank about half a litre a day.
Now I sometimes have to take care that I don't drink a whole lot more because it makes me feel bad and is surely not good for my body either.
I don't have to remind or motivate myself to drink now....I just do it automatically.

since i've been a child i ONLY drank water! no juices, no coffee, not even soda - just pure water. so i've always been used to drink and don't need a real motivation for doing it.
but in the last couple of years it really became a little habit. i sometimes drank 5-6 litres a day! i also noticed the above mentioned dizziness - like i would faint any moment when i was standing up from bed/ a chair. then my doctor told me that although water is healthy, it can get reaaally dangerous for your body if you drink too much. so, the always advised 2-3 litres a day should be the max. limit!

Yes, too much water can throw off your electrolyte balance and can actually become dangerous.

I know water is good, and that human body cannot work without water,
but if you start drinking more, can you actually see the results on your skin?

What is really important also are your electrolytes and keeping them balanced, that's part of the importance of water, also that it assists in flushing out toxins out of your system and all the regular 'stuff' that your body accumulates and tries to get out of it; kind of like how you see a build up of garbage along the highway over time. I don't want this to sound like an advert but I get this stuff (http://www.emergenc.com/) all the time to mix with my drinks, it has all kinds of goodies in it that you need and keeps me going a lot better than by just drinking a plain glass of water - though even just water is good too. I try to drink at least one huge (20oz's) glass of water with one packet of that stuff mixed in a day, and typically I'll just drink almost all of it, then fill it up again with more water so I have another giant glass of water with the rest of the mix.

It's so easy to get dehydrated, especially if you like coffee or tea and drink it almost religiously, like me. Caffeine, it's a wonderful thing.

That is a myth, tea and coffee also hydrate you . The same as food, the water that we need is also part of everything we put in our mouth. There is no need to overload the body with so much water like people thought a couple years ago.

I try to drink lots of herbal tea because it's more interesting than water. But still, I have to motivate myself to drink the tea as well

Of course tea and coffee hydrate you, it's more then 95% of water in them. I heard it's even better to drink tea cause it stays in your body longer than water.

Drinking water helps me get rid of bloating which is motivation itself, I guess. I hate feeling bloated!
