Airbrushing and Photoshop pretty much come hand in hand with photography these days. In an era where it’s common to find someone missing a hand or leg because of -very- bad retouching, it is refreshing to learn of a magazine pushing against this trend. NakedButSafe is the very first fashion magazine to include pictorials that have not been manipulated, retouched or rendered. From creatives Stratis Kastrisianakis and Manos Samartzis, NakedButSafe celebrates the raw image. According to their website, “In our society of supposed perfectionism we tend to expect ‘final’ and polished products,” NakedButSafe is “Born out of frustration. Maybe.”

^Very cool editorial!
Thanks for posting, tentalicious!

naked but safe? is that hard to find a good name for a magazine...
But i agree, the eds are good.

terrible name.

interesting idea, but for a magazine that makes it so known they don't use photoshop, they certainly are using a lot of other tricks. They are just replacing photoshop with blurs and filters.

Woow i thought Myf wasn't into modeling anymore, anyway i found quite scary her editorial, i mean it's cool that they don't make use of photoshopping, but her skin and hair in the HQs looks with way too many details for the eye that you don't want to see

Theres a big difference between airbrushing and using shutter speed/dof. I wish they resolved the lacefront wig(?) with a shallow dof or something. Its the only thing that bothers me. I hope color correction is not ruled out of their adjustments as well...

E: Forgot to say, I anticipate future editions and hope this does well.

is there though? if their raison d'etre is that they don't photoshop their images (presumably because photoshopping images creates unnatural expectations), then why use any camera trickery to create similar expectations. They don't photoshop pores away, they just put a model behind a dirty glass window, cover her in makeup, or blur the images.

the rest of the eds:
-Magdalena Langrova & Eliza Sys (beauty)
-Morgan Smith
-Natalia Zakharova

I will post them if anyone's interested.

yeah post it. I find this magazine very interesting. But i also agree with masquerade

Yes. The title states RAW, meaning the digital capture file. These images projected to be the basis standard file without any adjustments (although presumably some color correction to print them correctly I imagine). The outdoor editorials really prove this, and to be honest it would improve them if they just fixed the color, imo.

Using camera techniques to create images is by no means the same as airbrushing after they've been captured. What are they suppose to photograph, everything in impeccable sharpness? Using a longer shutter speed to create ghosting, or even slightly faster speed, is not going to create the desirable image if they wish to hide something that can be done from makeup, lighting etc more effectively. Its not a guarantee that shooting something like that will mask. What is there to hide considering the rest of the editorial is shot in sharp focus and various degrees of distance?
