^I've always used it in a more positive connotation as it's other (and primary) definition is:
"having or seeming to have a supernatural or inexplicable basis;
beyond the ordinary or normal; extraordinary"

I suppose that there are more positive than negative uses for the word uncanny, but for me it has almost always been used to project an extraordinary condition. I'm been familiar with the less encouraging connotations, but I assumed those were much less commonly associated with the word. Besides, there's nothing wrong with me about "weird or mysterious" faces.
