I posted this elsewhere but I thought I should share it with TFS as well.
Found this new shoe brand, The Generic Man, via some blog links, then discovered it's by two partners, one of whom is a guy whose work I really admired back when he designed a more casual line called Generic Costume. The styles aren't the blunt, round-toed, artfully-worn, wear-with-your-Atelier-finds type, but a little more mainstream, somewhere between Common Projects and NDC. Can't say I've seen the actual quality nor the fits, but I do like the spareness of the designs coupled with more unusual finishes like the distressed leathers or the pebbled 'caviar' finish that looks almost reptilian, and the last on the slip-on is the perfect roundness and elongation for current fashion. The fact that they're all made in Italy bodes well too.
I see this doing well with the kinds of shoppers who buy at, say, Odin or Blackbird - more hip casual sportswear than designer, but still straddling both. I inquired and found out the price points will be between $235 and $300, so it's relatively affordable. I wrote a n entry on them in my blog, or you can check out their website at thegenericman.com (where both the AW07 and SS08 collections are available).
