No - Nikki's stepmother is not involved in the movie industry in any way, except maybe by proxy by being married to Nikki's father, who is an art director. Catherine is NOT Nikki's stepmother.

That was over a decade ago, when Nikki was a little kid. Her father has been happily married to someone else for more than 10 years now. Nikki explains it herself in the below vid:

Sure, Catherine knew her - but that's not the same as being her step mom.

And it's not just Catherine who decides on the casting though. Many other people, most notably the producers, have their say in it too - so if they really didn't want Nikki, they could have stopped it. They didn't, and most reviews of Nikki's performance have been favorable.

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, of course, and I for one think Nikki's stunning.

And it's not like we're saying Nikki isn't beautiful, it's just because Rosalie is described as the most beautiful female to ever grace the earth, Nikki just isn't Rosalie-kind of beautiful.

She pulled off the bitchy Rose for sure, but I still don't see her physically as Rosalie.

To be honest, I think it would be nearly impossible to find someone who DOES embody that description. I mean, just look at the model threads here. There are models who one person thinks is the most beautiful creature to ever walk the earth, and others can't stop posting about that same person in the Models You Don't Get thread. I mean, one of the most-mentioned suggestions for Rosalie, Olivia Wilde? Personally I can't stand her and don't think she's that pretty at all - I find her bland and boring and would prefer Nikki over her a million times.

Nikki herself is the first to admit (and has stated so in one way or another in nearly every interview where they ask her about what it's like to play the most beautiful woman etc) that it's impossible to fill Rosalie's shoes in a way that satisfies everyone, just because beauty is so...personal.

I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but Nikki just doesnt fit Rosalies description AT ALL. not even the small things. She even said herself she had to bleach her skin and do all those unneccessary things - I just don't see the point. Actos are part picked for the abllity but their appearance in correspondence for a role is also important - and like Ive said before, Twilight isn't some oscar worthy film, so the acting skills of the cast arent hugely important, they have to have visually appealing impact too. Think of it this way ; if the person chosen for Bella was 6 foot with blonde hair, it would've been a problem.

Yes - I know what you mean - Nikki isn't blonde etc, but to me, the fact that they disregarded Rose's physical description entirely, is just proof that when they were casting the part, they were looking for something else. Rose's essence, maybe, an actress who could convey the cold 'core' of the character, who had the right presence when she walked into a room. I think the producers/casting director weren't that bothered by Rosalie's looks (they definitely didn't make them the defining criteria by which to cast someone) and simply prioritized the essence of the character over the way she was described in the book.

Hmmm - to me, Rose is partly bitchy by nature, yes, but the main true reason she is so cold to Bella is because she doesn't agree with Bella being there, becoming involved with Edward, ultimately wanting to become a vampire, etc. Rose has real reasons for being a b*tch to Bella that go way beyond superficial things like that.

That's how I see the character, anyway.

i think they should have cast Rachelle Lefevre as Rosalie, to me she's stunning in the promo pics/posters. or at least a different shade of blonde (just a tone darker) and no roots...at least that's what made it look so "off" to me

She knows shes beautiful, therefore it gives her an arrogant cofidence.
She didnt ask to become a vampire, and not having a choice made her bitter and cold.
That's before Bella even came into Edward's life.

I agree, I don't like the peroxide shade of blonde they went for, eww. But then again, I have my issues with a lot of the make-up/hair for the movie...the powder they used on the vampires looks gross and way too obvious as well. I'm hoping it's those kinds of things they'll manage to fix for the 2nd and 3rd movies!

Agreed. Rachelle was the only one out of entire cast that "worked" as a beautiful vampire.
