i would die for this camera!

my gf just gave me a new d40 with the 18-55mm kit as a early vday gift
good cuz its free and from my gf
good for starting to learn beyond point and shoot
good lcd
bad cuz lens are too limited w/ lack of AFS lenses or lack of the body with internal motor unless your willing to spend $$$ and do manual focus
small body convenient but bigger body have more weight and stability

tips
learn aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, iso, dof
aperature mode - for blurring background
shutter speed - moving objects

try to play with the aperature mode (A) then mess around with the settings
basically on this mode you set the aperature and the camera will adjust its shutter accordingly. vice versa of this is shutter mode (S)

small aperature/higher # = slow shutter speed = blur
large aperature/lower # = fast shutter speed = freeze motion

the smaller the aperature the shallow the depht of field
also d40 is overexposed set exposure to -0.7

Nothing wrong with manual focus - it's what all pro photographers use.

now i just need to learn how to use it properly and read through the manual.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks??

Nothing wrong with manual focus - it's what all pro photographers use.

No, I wasn't being sarcastic. Most of the time I use manual focus because it allows you to have complete control, which is something you should want when taking photographs. You can make a photo as crisp or blurry as you want.

what are some advice tips about using the Nikon D40 in manual mode? I know light exposure is of essence when getting your photos to come out crisp, but i want really crisp HQ images in darker settings. anyone know how to get that? & i mean w/o the flash.

Dust on lens

My lens have accumulated a lot of dusts.

What should I do to get rid of them?

my mum and dd promised me the camera for my 18th lol .. i finally got it when they had the money 6 months later haha thats what you call waiting .. and i can honestly say it was more then worth the wait .. they even got me lenses as compo for waiting haha

^^ theres loads available .. depneds what you want it for huni ?? what do you want to do with it ?? most are between £100-£500 i find.. they arent cheap.. but worth it totally
