Nur Hellmann from Cologne | Mother Agency: am model management in Cologne | Booking:
[email protected]
When I first thought about making this story, I absolutely wanted Nur Hellmann to be part of it because she is just phenomenal and I've been watching her (noble) development right from the start. The German nyph had her New York Fashion Week debut this season walking Ohne Titel among others and this being said, she's already quite successful on the advertisement front of fashion with gigs for both United Colors of Benetton and Akris (see portrait above). Nur, who also enjoys editorial visibility in Russian Interview Magazine this month, is now back in Paris and had some time to do me a favour answering on the following questions:
How were you discovered?
I was discovered during a shopping tour with a friend in my hometown Cologne. Suddenly a woman came to us. First I thought she means somebody else but she said "Hey, stop. Yes, I mean you!" And I was so surprised when she asked me if I was a model. I couldn't deny that I was interested and that's how everything started. Now this woman is my motheragent, Ann Kathrin Fischer from am model management.
What are the best characteristics of your agent?
There are two good characteristics. She's my agent when we talk about options, jobs or where I am going next. But once the business talk is finished, we are friends and have fun.
Your favourite German city?
That would be Lüneburg. It's a small city in the North, closely located to Hamburg. A big party of my family lives there and I've been there often in my holidays. The city has quite a few different sides to see. The Altstadt (old quarter of the town) is really nice with a lot of old buildings and small shops (no Starbucks, though). But what I like most about Lüneburg is the nature! I lived my whole life in Cologne and spend the least 1 1/2 years in Paris, London and New York where you rarely see nature. That's why I like to sit down on a park bench, hick through the woods and fields, read a book and just relax.
What is the most harmful thing you have ever done at school?
One day my friends and me left school earlier to celebrate Carnival which is really huge in Cologne. Everybody is dressing up in funny costumes and the entire city is dancing on the streets.
How does being from Germany help you in the industry?
Well, we start to learn English quite early at school which makes communication smoother.
Your favourite and least favourite German dish?
Worst dish is Weißwurst. Best is my grandma's potato salad.
Which German models are you friend with?
I'm friends with Aysche Tiefenbrunner and Kati Nescher, both from am model management as well. And Brenda Kranz from Ford as well as Hanna Wähmer from Viva Models in Paris.
Your favourite and least favourite German celebrities?
My favourite German celebrity is Matthias Schweighöfer, I like his movies and he has a great humor. I'm actually a big fan of almost all German comedians. The only jokes I can't really laugh about are the ones from Mario Barth.
Your favourite and least favourite songs at the moment?
My favourite song right now is "Back to the City" by Elisa Bee, it's a 40 min remix! Before it used to be "We found love" by Rhianna, but after listening to it non stop for more than a month it's not a favourite anymore. (Laughs)
We Germans are not exactly talented when it comes to styling and so on. Give the Germans at your age some style advice.
I think we Germans are a bit shy trying out new or crazier things. My advice is to mix chic garments with vintage. I love vintage clothing and sun glasses. And I absolutely love jewellery, I have tons of rings in several sizes and colors.
