NYC Tax Free week

Hey, whats everyone in nyc buying during tax free week?

^_^

Nothing, cause it's on sh*t below $110. What can you buy?

On another note, Bloomberg is lobbying for abandoning the sales tax on clothes altogether, to compete with Joysee. But Pataki won't let that happen, of course.

What? Tax on clothing? Eep. Sometimes I forget that I live in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania...which is good for buying clothes and bad for buying liquor.

Em

or you could be in oregon, where they don't have sales tax on ANYTHING.

but, you can't pump your own gas.

It is kind of sh*t considering that a few years ago there was NEVER tax on anything under $110. And like Faust said, what can you buy?

Gotta love Jersey for no sales tax on clothes.. woooot woot! :D

If you really wanna cheat the system, buy stuff in NY and have it shipped to NJ. Then you avoid premium and accesories sales tax as well.

Not really...when I had Balenciaga ship my bags to Jersey, they made me pay the Jersey tax rate on the bag.

Yeah, a friend of mine said Barney's charged them tax for a bag. However, I have never been charged. Maybe it is only if it goes over $1000? Or maybe my sales people just F up.

or you could live in Canada where the sales tax in most province in 14-15% and not all nicely included in the price like the VAT is in the EU.

It's only on clothes (hence no food or makeup). They do it to promote retail business. They figure that people will buy more and they'll get some of it back in income taxes from businesses.

NEWSFLASH: No tax on ANYTHING in Century21 department stores (I hope Pradaesk is reading this, she's in NYC somewhere).

I'd rather do my shopping in Delaware cause it's always tax-free!!!
And did some say Guam? That's another best shopping spot!
