Off-White F/W 2023.24 Paris

I'm going to be honest, I've never been a fan of this label and its clown clothes that basically felt like one huge running gag that you had to be on the inside of, but this is an improvement over the days of "FOR WALKING" shoes and "FOR WEARING" garments in step with the tailoring revival....still feels pointless though.

Like there's no real point of view to these clothes, some of them look nice but whatever, the attempt to keep the edge without the streetwear look just reads like it's Michael Kors trying to be rebellious (but without the level of cut and fabric mastery that mainline Kors has).

I like a lot of things about it except for the clothes…
Ib’s job for me is to redefine what Off White should be but I think he has to process what it is about in the first place.

Virgil Abloh was a black American working in Europe, linked to the hip-hop culture, a certain Art scene and it’s a very specific taste.

What I loved about Heron Preston for example was how honest his proposition was in relation with himself, the city he is showing and his audience.

This doesn’t feel connected to any of the point of references of Virgil. Now that they are pushing this idea of culture to Louis Vuitton, the same can be done to Off White. Those clothes don’t look like they are aimed to someone else than somebody getting paid to attend the show.

It looks like a stylist’s vanity project in the worst way possible.

This is made better than what was being churned out before, so I'll credit the team for that. But this collection still makes no damn sense. It just exists without reasoning.

Exactly - I'm not sure why it even exists anymore.

It makes no sense for me. Ib Kamara is a great stylist, no doubt on that, but I see rather poor his work at Off White at Dazed.

Not sure how “great” of a stylist he is…

oh my word, i recently came back to TFS and I feel like almost every thread is full of people relentlessly pressed and miserable about everything .... Would be great to see more suggestions for the future direction of OW, with references to validate points of view rather than just reactionary comments.

They should give the job to Martine Rose. Everybody has her name on the lips, she is close to the Hip-Hop community (which I think is super-important when working for Off White) and she has already celebrities connections.
Virgil tried too hard maybe to distance Off-White from the idea of Streetwear but I think there’s no shame in doing that. It has to be well done, that’s all…

Ib can still work as a consultant for the campaigns and shows but he is not a designer and he lacks the cultural 360 POV to handle the brand from a product POV.
He is a stylist and those clothes will look good in a magazine but won’t work in a wardrobe.

off white is in an even worse positon than givenchy because i cant think of one off white look. Ok maybe that nike dress but thats literally not even fashion.

there are no codes to work with and no construction techniques either. The brand is literally hollow and LVMH prob realizes that.

I would just scale it back to a shoes brand really not even the bags are worth it. What does off white even represent to want a bag? The shoes are lower priced (half the price of dior) which is smart on LVMHs part because theyre pretty much just nikes with the offwhite logo.

I mean look at this nonsense
