That is exactly what I was thinking. My mom has a pair of Tabi she bought when she and my dad went on their honeymoon to Hawaii in 1970! She kept them around because she thought they were very cute and a good idea.

muji makes adorable tabi ankle socks. i have a several pairs..they're really comfortable. maybe when i do laundry i'll take a picture.

i do have to say that most of the hideous ones posted here are, well, hideous.

I used to wear toe socks (you know, the ones that are cut to fit your foot like a glove fits your hand) with flip flops.

Normally I hate sandels and socks, but it's cute in a weird way on some of those younger guys...
