I was referring to the black lace-up ones you posted in your Opinions thread. There is a whole genre of clothing which seems to be intentionally innocuous, as if it were designed to make the wearer recede into the background. In footwear, it results in a heel that is neither high nor low, a toe that is neither too tapered nor too square, and a finish that is neither too bright nor too matte. Sort of fashion stealth.
Certainly there is a market for this sort of thing, because it seems to appear everywhere. But since my own interests don't lie in that direction, my opinion is strongly colored (pun intended) by my own style!
