Where can I find out the orgin of materials for the shoes (and bags) from Tods, Chanel, etc...

I'm trying to avoid the use of animal products, mainly becuase most of it is not controlled ethically and cruelty-free. Where can I find out about the leather factories top designers get their materials from, and do some research on the ethics behind it?

*please say that my favourite Tods are not the result of cruelty*

To my knowledge they don't give any informations about that. But all those luxury shoes of course have leather soles and most often also leather lining although you chose a fabric style.

There are various organisations out there such a PETA that have cruelty free lists. If your company is on their cruelty free list than they most likely don't have any animal products, or animal tested products in them. However most of these lists are compiled with using the honour system. Meaning PETA basically have to take it at face value that these companies are telling them the truth as to how their products are tested and developed.

Try joining a few forums that are about animal rights and you will probably find that they will have some of the information you are looking for. Or you can post on there and ask directly if you can't find what you want.

If all else fails you could always try ringing the company, but most likely that will be like getting blood out of a stone. Best of luck.

Thank you!
(Zarina, what a find. I'm already in love with their shoes.)

Yes they look great, not "vegetarian" at all!

Haha, yeah, that's fantastic. So many eco-friendly shoes look hideous. (and are usually constructed of rubber. :P)
I'm really crazy about the Foxglove wedge. I think they may be my next shoe purchase. :D

It seems like cute veggie bags are much easier to find than cute shoes. Peta is iffy becuase it's mostly stuff like Payless Shoes, which is fine, but sometimes I like something a little....nicer.

I wish tags disclosed this information... not only where it was made, but where the materials like wool, leather came from... like where the sheep/cows lived, it would help you guess how they are treated.
