Paolo Roversi - Photographer

Did anyone order and actually receive Studio?
I ordered it from two different websites and they ended up telling me it was not available.

Was it really re-released?

i ordered it too and they keep telling me about the delay.
somehow annoying...

^ According to wikipedia, he uses large format Polaroid film so the blur effect is the result of it, I guess. But as most of fashion photos are photoshopped nowadays, his also may be retouched.

A bit late comment to this perhaps, but the Large format (4x5 / 8x10 and larger ) can have an extremely shallow depth of focus but full control of the focal plane which can also be used to add to this effect.

Since every magazine today really are done with digital offsetting the image may be taken on polaroids (or more likely Fuji instant film considering the availiblity of polaroid film today ;) but its then scanned and processed digitally for the rest.

Mr. Roversi does in fact work with an an 8x10 Deardorff and 8x10 Polaroid pretty much exclusively. I had the pleasure to meet him a couple of times, once at a Peter Lindbergh exposition and once at my photography school in Paris. He is not at all shy about explaining his techniques, but don't think he is giving it ALL away ;) He is still affilliated with Speos Photographic Institute in Paris today and teaches an advanced course of fashion photography. Unfortunately, he didn't start teaching there until the year after I graduated (2003), so I was bummed out about that.

True, that his images are post-processed, but not nearly as much as digital photos are. They don't need it! Most of the photos you see on this thread are pretty much what they would look like if you were to see them with the naked eye.

Its information like this that make me love this forum so much! =)

Now if i can just find a polaroid back that fits my old 4x5 B&J Orbit ;D

Thanx lumierephoto!

Those are great Mirik, thanks for posting.

His work is absolutely phenomenal. I truly admire him. I was NEVER a fan of large format cameras in school.
