Paper Magazine September 2022 : Madonna by Ricardo Gomes

Yikes..
I am always one to defend Madonna, she is a true icon and there would not be any of the current pop girls if it wasn't for her. She has truly kicked down doors, proved time and time again why she is THE queen of pop and one of the most powerful people in music. But.. these images and the rest of her current image is definitely not for me. I mean, of course she is entitled to do what she wants at the end of the day but it does make me sad.

It’s funny to see these trash-bin Madonna covers while havig Linda by Meisel on Vogue, at least she’s having fun.

I wish she would be still doing her thing but with her "real face"... like, it´s ok to age and not change your personality. This to me feels like, you need to be young forever to be relevant even if you´re Madonna. She should be beyond that imo.

The 4th cover is the one that works best here, imo.

That's all fair, but is this really what youth is about? Cause I feel like she has a wrong vision of what's cool with the kidz today lol
This is all so very early 2010s - you know, poppin' bottles in the ice and party rock is in the house tonight. Down to the clothes! It was barely cool when she did the same thing for b*tch, I'm Madonna music video and it's even less cool today.

I love them all!
Fun and sexy, like the Queen herself.
She can do anything she wants, and there's so much freedom in that.
Everyone obsessed with how she "behaves", or what "her face" should look like,
need to look in their own cracked mirrors.. This woman is life, and has blazed the trail for
all of your faves, who continue to look to her for inspiration. She's the ultimate Alpha female.
I wanna be just like her at 64.

I don´t know about that but I´m in Spain and people in gay clubs dress a lot like on these pics.

All I want to know is how on earth do her knees keep up with her? I'm more than half her age and mine struggle for a good portion of the day, yet here she is dropping it like it ain't anybody's business.

She does what she wants, has fun and isn't really harming anyone but you can't ignore that the "aesthetic" approach it sits within is pretty dated and tasteless. An odd mix of early series Skins and Netflix's Elite.

Well, this is all incredibly upsetting isn’t it. I can’t help but feel we’re at the point where she’s just eroding her legacy. It’s all just so, so ‘try hard’ which is just hugely ironic as she was the person who didn’t try hard, she was the person who led the pack without even trying.
