It was just an example I was using. I'm very diplomatic in my dislike of them. I hate both Baby Phat and Heatherette equally.
 Oh, that's all good then.

Pffff.... I have to agree with M-O-M. I was not impressed with this at all, by any means. There is simple and there is drab, and that seemed the letter. I love VB's simplicity for example, but there is something in it. Of course I'd have to see the stuff in person for the final verdict, but so far I can't say anything good about it. Sorry, guys :flower: .

Purple,I think that's exactly why I love his style. The forms are really something I'm keen on. And here again, there's a certain stiffness that I enjoy as well.

But I would never say his craft was anything remotely close to say Tess Giberson or even Jurgi Persoons whom I feel he shares certain elements in common with.

scott..you can't compare jurgi to either of those...it's not even in the same ballpark...jurgi is on the level of mcqueen...really one of the truly gifted...

this is a perfect example of what i was ranting about when young designers charge these enormous prices for really simple stuff that isn't even decent quality...but i've been skeptical of rzepski all along...

it's all t-shirt dressing...the kind of stuff you'd pick up in the mall in the 80's...or see in a ZZtop video...

i'm with m-o-m...it's not astro-physics...looks like urban outfitters to me...
but this is just one of the slew of so-called 'designers' that really annoy me...how does this guy expect to compete in any serious way?...he should just go off and make art if that's what he really wants to do...

OT- i swear ...people go to fashion school these days the way people used to go to secretarial school...and these poor kids think that they can compete out there...but there's just no way...no way...

I know Soft. Just this iconoclastic spirit and the fact they shared a certain affluence for those kinds of shapes. Egads,no! I don't think anybody is like Jurgi. Never will be,either.

I miss him SO much. When I saw his clothes in Barneys, without knowing who he was, I was just smitten.

You're telling me! I've got loads of images of his work on my wall because he just inspired me more than anybody, really. I connected so much with what has done. Including his visual prevolence. I hope eventually he'll be able to make a successful return.

scott...do you mean affinity?...or affection?...i don't think affluence is what you mean...is it?...
i don't understand...can you clarify?...thx... ;)

I did  sorry. I was trying to think of it but it would not come about.

not to keep dragging this thing out...but I also think Patrik is not the real deal. I do like the way that grey top sort of blouses to the dropped waist yoke looking thing...but thats it.
He is getting by on the backs of all the interns he brings in to make all his patterns and do his sewing. I know several students who he brought in to do all this work. thats why it has amateurish quality...because its created by first semester students who havent even learned much about construction. i am confounded by the fact that his name is even known.

Wow, Marrimoda. That explains a lot. Out of curiosity, did you hear this firsthand from one of the interns?

Metal -- Yes, I get my information first hand, from very reliable sources.
I have been told by a young woman who interned for him while she was in school, that she made actual patterns for his designs. I believe what she tells me on this because I've known her for a while. I also know a guy who interned for him, and tells the same story...the interns go to Patriks place, and make tons of patterns...I dont know how much of that work actually makes it into his collection.

I also am familiar with Patriks postings at school where he looks for a crew of interns every semester...he states that interns will make his patterns and some sewing. As far as I know they are not paid (other than school credit).

Believe me, the interns like the experience they are getting, compared with what interns do for other designers and companies (clerical work, running errands). The interns learn a lot, hands on...though they do work long hours. I remember that I chose not to go there because I didnt like the quality and style of his collection.

this is a very common occurrence actually...LOTS of small brands and young designers use interns to create their sample line...
probably not later for production so much though...

i'm quite sure marrimoda's info is true...i've witnessed it firsthand in some places myself...

IOC was notorious for this as well...

The entire collection is up on his website. I am drooling.
