Oh! Stupid me! I thought the Guardian was a UK thing only. And Rollagaspar, that is exactly how I felt when I read that!

After all these years,i still feel as if she's still a bit underrated in the U.S. (even if this is her own country!)

I think she indeed deserves more recognition. At times I think she's really popular, because she is one of the most recognized figures of american rock and roll of the 70s. And near the end of the 70s, she did play huge stadiums.
Yet, most people from my generation (late teens) have not heard her music. It's a shame.

It is and it isn't. Sometimes I think she has struck the perfect balance between recognition and preservation of integrity. If she chased after that pervasiveness, she would not be Patti Smith.

Oh, i completely agree. I truly admire her integrity. What i meant is just that her music is such art and it's a shame people are missing out on it. Listening to "Land" stirs up so many images, yet my peers' musical experiences end somewhere between Panic at the Disco and Fergie. I personally am just happy that i bought Horses that day in the record shop about two years ago.

Patti Smith documentary from Steven Sebring!!

The Patti Smith Project is a full feature film. The documentary is a loosely structured road movie that captures Patti's personal and professional arc since 1975. More of musical biographical poem than a "bio-pic", the film traces Patti's inner life through lyrics images, interview segments and musical interludes ranging from classics such as "Gloria" to the anthematic "People Have The Power."

i absolutely love patti smith. apparently i look like her too - before i heard of her, quite a few random people in the street and tell me i have the same face/fashion style so i googled her and soon became addicted to her music :-D
