Plane Carrying Vittorio Missoni Goes Missing

MILAN — Vittorio Missoni, head of the family owned Missoni fashion business, and his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, were aboard a plane that disappeared off the radar on Friday near the tourist archipelago of Los Roques, Venezuela.

According to Nestor Reverol, Venezuela’s minister for justice and home affairs,
the small twin-engine airplane, which took off from Los Roques headed to the Simon Bolivar International airport in Maiquetia, about 13 miles from downtown Caracas, sent out its last signals about 10 nautical miles from Los Roques before disappearing.

Missoni, the 58-year-old son of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, and his wife were on vacation in Venezuela with four Italian friends, and two of them were traveling on the missing plane as well. The Britten-Norman BN-2 aircraft had two crew members.

A number of boats and a couple of Venezuelan Navy planes immediately started conducting the search, which will resume today after having been temporally interrupted during the night.

wow how alarming. these situations rarely ever have a good outcome. my thoughts are with the family.

So sad. Five years ago eight Italians disappeared in the same place, and the plane or their bodies were never found.

That's horrifying. I hope they're found soon, alive :(

That's odd; is it treacherous terrain or known for bad pockets of weather?

Anyhow, doesn't bode well. :( Wishing the best.

on the article in vogue italia they said that a magazine is suspecting it was hijacked by drug traffickers

Well.. he's dead, sounds cruel but that's how it goes, no one's ever found alive.

idk, it's just like it was mentioned, drug traffickers may have kidnapped them as the pilot was found murdered.

So they found the plane with the pilot dead? and they suspect the passengers were kidnapped? by FARC?

Where are these claims (plane kidnapped, pilot murdered) coming from?

^Me neither. Unless they come from reputable sources, I'm not buying.

^But we don't know for sure if the plane was really kidnapped.

Yeah. A lot of jets fall, especially the private kind.. put them in a zone with less than relaxed regulations and pilots get too excited, making a lot of spur-of-the-moment decisions.. not saying that's what happened but it's probably more common than the automatic association with FARC or cartels.

you would think that with all the technology that exists today that planes just don't go missing anymore

Exactly. These things happen all the time with single-engine airplanes too. Say they have encountered bad weather on the way and poor flying conditions - that's a recipe for disaster right there.

If it's where the control tower lost the plane it is treacherous terrain.

My prayers and thoughts are with the Missoni family.
